    grading

    Hi!

Which information the person who makes grading for the film needs?

I don´t have the source names of some clips because I changed names before

making auto sync. Is this a total catstrophe?

    Re: grading

The original source file names and source file paths plus the related timecode.

That should all go in the AAF.

    Re: grading

The problem is that I have changed the names of the files before autosync and I don't find

the original file names. Do you know if there is any way to find out the source information or

is there any way for the grader to work without original source file names?

Did you rename the files at finder/os level (if so why) or just rename the clips?

When you AMA link a clip into Avid the clip name shown in the bin may start off as the filename but the actual file name is stored in the source file name column. This is whats used by the grader. Not the clip name.

Clip names are completely user editable.

    Re: grading

I only renamed the clips in Avid, not in finder.

Now I found out that if I right click and choose "reveal files" then I see the original name of the clip.

The strange thing is that "source file" column is simply empty but by using "reveal file" then I´ll get the same information.

And the source file name is what the person making grading needs?

    Thank you for help!

How did you ingest the sources? AMA link?

Did you add a tape name for the clips (does the tape column have any info in it?) if a clip has a tape associated with it Avid wipes the source file and source path info.

    Re: grading

I used "input" and "source browser" for to import the material. Before that I made MXF -files DaVinci.

The column with the tape name is visible in Avid, source file or source path are not visible.

Sounds like you Imported the files and not AMA linked them.

which is a shame. Import makes new Avid media

You will have to try sending a test AFF to the grader to see if they can access any source info.

    Re: grading

    Hi,

Ok, but when I click two times the clip on timeline then I can see the source name.

Isn´t this enough for the grader?

    Re: grading

I mean, I "match frame" two times on timeline and then the source file names becomes visible. It´s a bit more work but I have created new column calle "source" and I write the source file name there manually.

Do you know the graders system can relink the timeline based on your new columns?

    You need to test that.

    Re: grading

ok, I will have to check it.

But I just realized that I have never had any information in "source file" og "source path"  -columns and everything has been going just fine. The only difference this time is that the editor wanted to rename the clips at "name" -column. So I have written original names of the files manually to another column.

Thank you so much for help!
