    Nexis Pro faiure after upgrade

    HELP!!

I know this is a long shot and I have already created a case with Avid about this [03690114],

but just in case you know a special button to make this media online again I thought I'd ask.

We have four nexis pros bound together.

I tried to upgrade from 18.6 to 19.4 this evening and nexispro1 and nexispro3 did not fully reboot.

I can't ping them and there is no activity on the 10GB port.

I went in via the management port and a laptop and they are all upgraded top 19.4.

But all the disks i.e. the media packs on pro1 and pro3 are showing as "Pending"

In the agent the disks are showing "Error 69" in statistics>general

Under statistics> disk there is an error: "unable to obtain media pack disk statistics.

Unable to complete operation.  System director may not be running"

Nexispro1 and Nexispro3 have NO activity on the switch.

Nexispro2 and Nexispro4 have activity on the switch but as they are bound this is not functional.

Any ideas of what I could try?  Or just sit tight and pray?

    Cheers in advance.

    Regards,

    Rory

Re: Nexis Pro faiure after upgrade

In this situation this normally means that one of the SSDs has failed and when it started it doesn't know what SSD is the correct one to load the metadata from. Instead of loading the wrong metadata and losing all the media, it does nothing. This could be an error on the part of the system director erroneously failing an SSD or it could be a failed SSD. Did you check to see if there were any warning prior to doing the upgrade?

You're going to have to wait for support. Whatever you do, don't start pulling SSDs, you can lose everything.

Thank you Bob for the quick response

Ha!  Noted, I was also very aware not to turn anything off.

In agent I go to tools>Disk Space usage.

I am comparing a "working" nexispro to a "broken" one.

It looks like both see the system drive as I can see /dev/sda etc.

But there is one difference: /dev/mnt/storagemanager is missing from the broken one.

Also in system disk status: md5 is missing, which seems to be the largest one.

but it does not look like a system disk failure i.e the disk is saying [UU] rather than [_U]

I do remember back in the 7.6 days there when the ssd could fail without warning there was a command to run a check.

Do you remember what that was?

    Regards,

    Rory

Perfect, thank you.  I actually found it in my emails.  It was "mdinfo.sh -s".

Anyway Avid are in now so hopefully they can fix it.

I will update here.  Thanks again.

Re: Nexis Pro faiure after upgrade

    Okay, finally sorted.

It turned out all the engineer had to do was shut down the two engines and leave them unplugged for 5 minutes.

Not at the same time.  The System director first (engine 1) then engine 3.

I would have been wary of doing this because I remember reading that the ram can hold certain metadata and never to turn off if you have any issues.

The engineer was able check to see it was safe to do and everything came back online.

    Phew!  Thanks all.

    Regards,

    Rory
