Problem linking a renamed MXF file.

    Mac OS 10.4.1  MC 2018.11

Long story short - I made a Op1a MXF file.  Linked into the project that created it to check it.  All good.

I then renamed the file.  Tried to link into the project I had exported from.  Got a “can not create AMA mapper” sort of error.  No way to get it to link.

Went to another room, made a new project.  The renamed file linked just fine.  Went back to the original room, renamed back to the original file name.  Now the file will link.

I am betting this has something to do with AMA logging?  Whatever, it is not good.

As you didn't mention it specifically, I have to ask, did you delete the linked file from your Bin and try a new linking process?
I've had similar issues to that same process (using linking to check an exported file) and deleting the link and linking anew worked for me.

Sorry - wrote a response and guess I never hit send.

Yes I did try deleting the linked master clip and relinking - multiple time.  Once, when I did this, the new linked clip actually showed the original file name from before the rename!!.

Ah! That jogged my memory. I THINK that you need to delete the AMA Database.
I'm not near a system at the moment, to be able to tell you where it resides but I did find this location from another post:

    luca.mg:

...wrangling the c:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\AMA Management\AMA Metadata Folders might fix the problem.

I believe you can delete the whole AMA Management folder - I've done that in the past - but have a read of this Avid advice, too:

Yes the AMA media databases can be a real pain.

The biggest regular issue I see is users AMA link to a removeable drive to test a file.

All good so they move the file to local storage and relink.

All good. But check the source path for the file and it points to the original first AMA link.

A nightmare when it goes to conform.

Diable AMA managed media it offers little.
