Transcode/Consolidate small section of long AMA linked clip.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know this...    I was given a 1.5 hour continuous clip on a portable drive by a client.  I AMA linked the clip.  I only need about 2 minutes from this long clip.   How do I consolidate/transcode just the portion of the clip that I need to my media drive so I can give the client back his drive?

I'm not in front of a machine to test this, but my first instinct would be to subclip the portion I wanted to transcode, and then transcode the subclip.

Thanks.   I'll give it a try.
