Every so often when closing MC, it gives an error message that it has encountered a problem and has stopped working. I'll force MC to close with Windows Task Manager. I don't lose any saved work, but it's annoying and there seems to be no cause & effect pattern dictating when and why this happens.
I have a fantastic editing assistant. He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius! Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g
I see that too, on one system out of two, can't work out the reason why, and am considering going back to a Windows restore point before this annoying glitch started, that is late spring 2018.

George Angeludis: Do you have any Adobe product installed?
Yes, Photoshop. But this happens when I haven't used Photoshop when the computer has been on.
No Adobe stuff here.
Today, I had Photoshop open while also editing with MC, jumping back and forth between the two programs. When I exited MC, it closed normally without any error. I don't think Adobe is causing the issue.
At first I thought that this was related to some other software concurrently running with MC too, but the problem is random, doesn't seem to happen in conjunction with any particolar application. My best guess at the moment is that a Windows update broke something. What I really can't understanding is why this Is happening on only one system out of two similiar boxes both used for the very same kind of tasks.

I'm running Win 7 on a workstation that is not connected to the internet and I'm experiencing the the same problem, so I think the culprit may be some weird glitch within MC itself.
Terry, I see You have a Matrox device, I used to have one too, since it went EOL an hang up while exiting MC was "normal". I switched to a BlackMagic I/O, but perhaps some bits and pieces of the Matrox software are left in my system and randomly causing this issue. If I have the time I'll revert to an early spring 2018 Windows restore point (if any...), before this all started, and report back. Other than that, I fear a system wipe and MC clean install is in sight, or I'll have to live with this glitch.
I see the same issue occasionally on literally hundreds of different 2018.x systems at different sites running different hardware and storage. There is no reproducable pattern besides 1 thing.
It seems more frequent on systems using I/O in our case Aja and blackmagic, inc DNxIQ suggesting it is an open I/O issue. Software only systems seem less affected. However almost all systems we installed the last 1-2 years are using Aja or Blackmagic so it could be that the very few software only systems in use affect perception.
Later versions of MC 2018.x, especially MC 2018.11, seem to have reduced the problem but it could be editors have gotten used to it and do not report it to me anymore.
Merry christmas and a happy new year.

Yes Jeroen, software only seems unaffected, and yes, difficult path to reproduce, if possibile at all. Happy new year!!!
Jeroen van Eekeres:editors have gotten used to it
The first few times it happened, I would hold my breath and hope I did not loose anything when I opened up MC again. I've never lost any work because of it, so now it's just in the category of "annoying but harmless." Like that check engine light that stays on after the mechanic assures you it's a glitch and there is nothing wrong with your car.
It’s harmless you never loose anything. But let’s try to find why it’s happening.
Do we all have Symphony? What plugins?
Symphony here. Also Boris (lastest version) and Tiffen DFX.
Hmm. Exactly same here.
