    Never seen this.

Go to cahce settings and start from there.

Have you set the cache on a separate drive?

ok, it seems like it can take time when you open a project for the first time on a computer.

But you can have this problem even on a computer that have open the project before. Then is one fix that you rename your computer's folder in the project, then start Avid again and a new folder will be created..

As I said I never see this.

Do not rename Avid Project's folder, if I understood what you are doing.

no, I said that one fix for this can be renaming your computers's folder INSIDE the project folder

    Re: "configuring waveform cache..."

I have been having this issue for a while now and I can't work it out. We run on an editshare shared environment. Avid will hang on 'configuring waveform cache' for around 5 minutes before Avid finally opens. This will happen on any of the 5 avid PCs we use. It seems to happen when drive letters are changed or worksapces are unmounted and remounted. It generally seems to happen in the larger projects on the system. I have tried all the suggestions above to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I guess I'm not telling you any news but make sure to mount the workspaces needed before starting Media Composer.

MC doesn't like Workspaces (dis-)appearing while it's running.

I'm in an Editshare environment aswell and so far don't have any startup issues while the waveform cache is configuring, even with larger projects where 4 editors are working on at the same time.

Thanks for the reply. I always mount spaces before opening Avid. Its really strange and I don't seem to be able to workout what Avid is doing when it pops up.

Does it show the same behaviour with local test projects?

Just make a copy of a project on a local drive, disconnect from Editshare and try opening it.

Or create a new project on a local drive, ingest some files and see what happens.

This way you can exclude Editshare as a source of the issue.

    Re: "configuring waveform cache..."

rename the computers folder in the project

N:\Avid Projects\190902 PGM 216\<computername> (add an underscore or whatever you like)

then Avid creatis a new folder and you probably dont have this problem

    Re: "configuring waveform cache..."

This fix has worked for me in the past, but the problem seems to eventually return.

My Mac systems seem to be more susceptible to such slowdowns.

Toggling wfTglPersistence in the console seemed to speed things up, but that command does not seem to be persistent.

    Re: "configuring waveform cache..."

    Hi all,

I've just run a test by copying the project to the desktop and seeing if the waveform cache hang would be replicated. When opening the project from the desktop there was NO hang at all. This seems to confirm it is an Editshare issue.

    No solution as yet.

    Hi AmazingProd,

I also have this issue but only on some workstations. I have a big reality project and sometimes it is configuring audio waveform cache for over a hour. It happens every time I reboot the machine that I have to wait for it. So I dont reboot that much when I need to get work done in that project.

The thing that is different in this project is the use of scriptsync and phrasefind. Maybe it has something to do with it?

    have you tried this? http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/MC-hangs-configuring-audiowaveform-cache?retURL=%2Fpkb%2Fapex%2FKB_Render_Download%3Fid%3DkA240000000KzTk%26lang%3Dit_1_1_2_1_1_2_1&popup=true

Running MC 2018.12.7 on win10 on NEXIS E4 with a project worth 35TB of footage. While I have sort of learned to coop with this behaviour it is anyothing and I am not sure how to resolve it. I am also goingt to test if it is related to user settings.

    Hi Julian,

I have now escalated this to our supprot company who are in contact with Avid. Currently no fix.

I have also tried that fix in the link above but it doesn't do anything.

Hopefully I'll have a useful update soon.
