    Can't import anything

    When i try to import something - anything - i get an error that says;

    An unexlected error occurred while importing the Quicktime audio tracks.  The imported audio tracks may be unusable.  Would you like to contiue the import?

    When i click continue another error comes up.

    Exception: SYS_ERROR, OSErr:-43

    The video i'm trying to import is from Lynda.com as part of their exercize files for Avid Media Composer.

    If i try to import any other kind of video, no matter what it is, i gat a different error:

    Invalid file name

    This error comes up for .mov, mP4, avi, anything and everything.

    I have been trying to learn this program - but one kind of error or another seems to prevent me almost every step of the way.  I am very frustrated.

    The first thing people will need here to help you is a good description of your entire system specs.

    Re: Can't import anything

    Great.

    Are you trying to import to the MBP internal drive or an external drive?

    You really should not be putting any media on your internal system drive.  I seem to remember that there may be permission issues if try to.  Not saying that is what is happening, but ...

    Re: Can't import anything

    Everything is on a usb drive.  I've tried importing video from my other external drives, from the desktop, etc.  I always get the same thing.

    Just one of a plague of problems with this program.

    I teach at a film school and we've moved from FCPX to Avid and i'm trying to just learn it myself.  I'm using Lynda.com and i've downloaded their exercize files, but its been one error and frustration after another.  When i relink clips, they are always back to being offline even though i've saved everything.... it crashes with various errors constantly.  I have a brand new laptop!

    Re: Can't import anything

    +1 on that error code explanation. It’s an OS X / macOS level error:

    http://krypted.com/lists/comprehensive-list-of-mac-os-x-error-codes/

    fnfErr = -43, /*File not found*/

    @ebweller: can you try these?

    1. Do the files or folder from lynda.com have a forward slash (“/“) in the name? If so, remove or rename, then retry your import.

    2. Can you open one of the files in VideoSpec or MediaInfo?

    Put the report into Expert Mode, then attach a screenshot of the results.

    Re: Can't import anything

    Thanks for the replies!

    I updated to Mac OS Mojave and that seens to have fixed everthing regarding importing video, plus it fixed some other things too.  However, my application Manager still won't initialize - just keeps spinning... so that's still a problem, though i'm not sure what the application manager actually does.
