Long time reader, first time poster. I'm on a PC running MC 8.9.2 and I'm trying to link to a DPX file but I keep getting the error: "The file I:\VXF_Incoming\01_310_v01\01_310_v01\A017C006_180930_R178\A017C006_180930_R178_00000.dpx cannot be linked. Do you want to import it?
My drive is a Mac drive that I'm accessing through Mac Drive, but even if I move the DPX to a Windows drive, I still can't link to it. My project is the same resolution and settings as the DPX file. I can see it fine is Resolve too. Any ideas why Avid can't see it?
Not every media type can be linked, and that includes DPX. I'm presuming that you're trying to digest the entire image file sequence. This must be imported, which will transcode it to a video file for use with MC.

Avid can link to DPX, I do it all the time. I just can't figure out why it doesn't want to link to some but will to others. Maybe because it's 12-bit? That wouldn't make sense though since we can export 12-bit DPX, but who knows.
Try shortening the path, not sure this is the issue, but if the linking footage belongs to folders with a shorter path You may give this a try.

Great suggestion but no luck unfortuantely!
I'm so used to having to import image sequences, I did not realize DPX could be linked. I think it's safe to presume you've renamed everything according to the spec. at http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/How_To/DPX-file-Naming-convention-for-AMA-linking. Are you trying to link to a single file (which doesn't work), or to the folder and the first file is causing issues?
I didn't realize it either. I just tried exporting my timeline as DPX and then linking to the result - works very nicely! Sorry I don't have anything to add to this conversation.

The issue with Avid and DPX files seems to be the image packing setting.
IF you are on MC version 2018.10 and up frame packing must be set to 0 which is packed to 32 bit words. if you set to 1 or filled to 32 bit words, MC will throw AMA error.
FYI 16bit DPX do not require filling so this issue will be alleviated.
