I've had a problem on 2018.10 where I can't eject a media drive (once avid has quit) because macOS says an application is still using it. It seems that the process that is still using the drive is Avid Phonetic Indexer and it's usually red in the Activity Monitor. I can quit the process there and the drive ejects. But something is causing the phonetic indexer to get stuck. Is it suppsed to stop running when I quit avid? Could there be something that got corrupted in the phonetic index on that drive that is causing the problem? Looking for troubleshooting advice. For the record I have only used this particular drive with 2018.10 and no previous versions so this isn't necessarily a 2018.10 issue. I was running 2018.5 before this.
Bumping this since I am seeing the same think and havent found a way to disable it. All it does is get stuck and take up RAM

Ditto for me. After closing AVID this process still shows as active and is taking up a ton of RAM. 2018.11.0 Mac / High Sierra. Only way to get it to stop is to restart :( Guess i will have to carve out some time to setup a support ticket..
OK - Plus one from me. I'm seeing the same thing in the Activity Manager as in the screenshot - sometimes Phoneticindexer quits, sometimes not. MC 2018.10 on Sierra 10.12.6. Getiing very annoying!

Stupid question - is this process linked to the Phrasefind feature? I have it on trial. If not activated, will the Phoneticindexer thing cease to trouble me? Can it be deactivated if present>

I just want to add that I've experienced this behavior as well. I'm on OS X 10.13.6 and Media Composer 2018.11.

I'm also dealing with the same issue.
Avid 2018.12

starkcontrast: I'm also dealing with the same issue. Avid 2018.12 Mac OS 10.14.2 Mojave
To assist you - can you try to do the following: 1. Close Avid Editor 2. Go to Drive where project is located (sample path below for WIN and MAC. It will depend if your project is in local or not of course): Windows: C:Program Files/Avid/Avid Media Composer/Avid Projects/name of your project Mac: MacHD/Users/Shared/Avid Media Composer/Avid Projects/name of your project 3.Look for the folder called "SearchData" and make a back up on your desktop then delete that folder on it's current location 4. Re-launch Avid Editor and open project. Check your PhraseFind Indexer as well if it's able to index already. I'd like to know as well: A. The last time phonetic indexer was working for you. Last version of Media Composer and PhraseFind. B. A screenshot of you About this Mac C. Have you tried to index projects that are located on your local root folder? Please let me know
I'm having the same issue, and thought it might have been some problem with my older laptop,
macOS 10.12.6, Macbook Pro Retina 15" (2014), 2.8 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM. AMC 2018.12.5
I would quit to take a break, then re-opem AMC. I'd often find my system dragged into the mud. Could barely get the mouse to operate. If I could get to Activity Monitor (and not just do a hard shut down), I'd see TWO AvidPhoneticIndexers as crashed, taking 3 GB of RAM each, and a third instance of the indexer trying to run with AMC. All memory had been taken.
However, I now have a new mac-mini (2018), macOS 10.14.5, 3.2 GHz Intel i7, 32 GB RAM, AMC 2018.12.5. And when I quit AMC, AvidPhoneticIndexer does not quit.
I never looked at this on my new system until yesterday, which was the same day I moved my Phrasefind license from the old laptop to my new mini. Not to say it wasn't happening, but just never noticed it or thought to look.
