    how open bin as read-only?

    ..on PC you just hold Alt-key

    how do it on Mac?

    Option key.

    But as far as I know you can only do this on a project on shared mulit-user storage (ISIS, Terrablock, etc). 

    If you are working on a single-user system I do not think you can open a bin as read-only.

    Would be nice if you could though!

    you can lock them on finder level

    with MC closed, go to your project folder, select your bin and press cmd-i, then you can mark it as LOCKED. when you open MC and your project and the bin, and work with it, it refuses to save any changes. If this is, what you want, voilà best j
