Importing Sony XAVCS 4K into MC 8.5.2

Importing xavcs 4k into MC 8.5.2

I just purchased a Sony AX53 and am testing it out. I don't seem to be able to import the files, and notice earlier threads about the Sony format being incompatible with Avid. Is this still a no-go or should I be able to import without going through an extra step? If not I will take the camera back and wait until Sony and Avid are singing the same tune.

I don't have any XAVCS experience, but I think what you need is the Nablet plugin for XAVCS that will allow you to link to the media from the camera. Hopefully someone who has dealt with this workflow will come along to explain the workflow, but in the meantime here's a link to the plugin:

I will end up returning the ax53. I'll wait until avid can handle the ex avcs format before I move into 4K.

I believe support was added in 8.9 or so.  However, last I knew, some data, such as timecode, was not kept.  In other words, you'd link to the files, and the timecodes would all show as zero.

If that doesn't matter to you, maybe try updating your software and see if it works.

I just tested some A7S AVC media in mc 2018.8 and timecode is working where it didn't in 2018.2. I can't speak to the XAVC-S flavor, as i don't have any test media handy.
