    Segmentation error on trimming 2018.10.0

    Hello:

Every time I grab video with the trim roller and try to manually roll the edit, I get a crash.  I'm on a MacPro5,1 tower, (mid 2010), on High Sierra 10.13.4.  This worked fine on 2018.9.0, which I was using earlier today, same project, DNxHD36 media.

I've included the splash screen I see on crash.  Is it me, or a bug?

    Thanks, JIM.

Here's a more detailed capture of the crash.

    Anyone?

    Thanks, JIM.

So this popped up after you installed 2018.10?

Let me get a case started.

    Hi Marianna!

Yes, nothing else has changed except the MC build.  On 2018.09, it worked as it always has.  Now on 2018.10, every time (and I mean EVERY time) I grab a piece of media and try to manually roller trim on the timeline, AVID crashes.

Thanks for starting the case.  I might have to roll back to 2018.09 in the meantime, just so I can get some work done!

    Best, JIM.

Oh, I should also mention, it doesn't matter if I have the BM DeckLink engaged or not, or whether the CAPS LOCK is on, it crashes all the same.

@Jim Blokland: can you attach a crash log from Console?

    Hi Isaac:

I couldn't get it to export the log from Console after the crash, but I exported before the crash, and did a screen capture of the last few lines on the console after the crash.

    Hope this helps.

    Best, JIM.

@Jim Blokland: Stick out tongue Haha! I thought that would happen.

That is, can you attach a crash log from macOS' Console?

/Applications/Utilities/Console.app -> User Reports -> should see some Media Composer reports ending in .crash. Select one, then right-click -> "Reveal in Finder". Attach a few. Should be small enough for the forum.

    Sorry. That's on me.

Re: Segmentation error on trimming 2018.10.0

    Hey Jim,

    Can you try this?

    1. Duplicate your sequence.

    2. Reset everything for those audio clips - levels at 0dB, remove effects, remove transitions, remove any keyframes, etc.

    3. Try to trim again.

    Still crashing?

    Hey Isaac:

Thanks for this.  Removed all levels, effects, keyframes from the sequence.  Rolled a whole bunch of bits around – audio, video, slides, etc – no crashes.

Of course, as you're no doubt aware, I need all those things in my sequence...and in all previous version of the software, was able to trim with no issues.

Thanks for troubleshooting.  Let me know if there's anything else you need.

    Best, JIM.

    OK, good.

Looking at the crash logs, it looks like a bug. Also seems to be a recurring item. Given your workstation has macOS 10.12.6 (not OS X 10.9.5), and it happens whether or not your BMD hardware's connected, it looks like this is related to audio in the timeline.

    According to this thread:

    https://community.avid.com/forums/p/161226/813283.aspx

    It could be...

    1. Both keyframes and a dissolve were applied to that audio clip.

    2. An unrendered dissolve on an audio clip.

If that's true, try adding-and-rendering a dissolve. If that's successful, try adding any other mixing or finishing bits, one-by-one. My hunch is MC will crash if you keyframe and add a dissolve the clip, then attempt to trim.

Re: Segmentation error on trimming 2018.10.0

I can confirm... very annoying bug... after upgrade to AMC 2018.10 I trashed my settings files then trimming with mouse works as usual. After 2 hours, when I moved trim rollers with mouse, disaster begins... then I trash my settings files again and everything works OK but after another 3 hours - CAPS LOCK on (audio scrubbing) and attempt to trim with mouse... bang....  Angry
