Hi all,
I have a massive 1 1/2 hour doc that I'm going to start uprezzing this week, and I need some advice from more experienced AVID users. Target format is UHD, 23.98
OFFLINE: 1080P/23.98
ONLINE: UHD, 23.98
Source material is a mix of:
1. UHD rushes transcoded to offline format of 1080P2. UHD/MXF AMA linked rushes that were never transcoded - they were cut directly into the offline as AMA3. A mix of lower quality formats (1080 or below) from iPhone, news footage, etc. These were transcoded in 1080P and I see no reason to uprez them.
So, the only media that needs to be recaptured as UHD is #1 above. The rest stay as is.
OK, so my question is:
1. What is the best way to UNLINK only #1 above, and recapture what I need in UHD format with handles?
2. I prefer to stay IN THE SAME PROJECT (switch it from 1080P to UHD) and create an UPREZ BIN where the UPREZ sequence and newly captured UHD media will live.
Many thanks in advance . .

Create video mixdown of whole sequence so you have a guide
With sequence in new fresh bin use set bin display show source reference clips.
Copy all those clips (and not the seq to a new fresh bin.
Using column headings now located all the clips you need to up rez.
Delete all the unnneeded clips (only delete the master clip NOT any media)
This is to give a bin of just the clips that need working on.
I would then delete the media for all those clips so they go offline.
Then AMA link those clips (using the source path and source file column headings)
As you bring each source online it should link to the sequence if not when all are online in the bin leave that bin open.
Open the sequence bin right click the seq and choose relink. choose the second option link to selected open bins.
When you have the sequence linked to the AMA sources you can transcode to your UHD resolution.

Question:
"I would then delete the media for all those clips so they go offline."
I assume you're referring to the clips that will be replaced with the new, AMA linked and transcoded (UHD) clips?
I'd like NOT to delete any original media if possible just in case any changes are requried after the UPREZ. Not likely, but possible. Is there a way to UNLINK the original lowrez media (for the new seq only) and replace it with the new, UHD media?
In a perfect world, I'd have access to BOTH the lowrez media and the consolidated, hirez media.
Michael
Yes you can unlink clips from, Avid media but there is a risk when you relink that it will link to the old media and not the source AMA clips.
Depending how many clips there are you can use reveal file to find the AVid media and manually move them out of the avid Mediafiles folder so making them offline but its a lot more work.
As a Tip I'd normally ensure those different types of soutrces lived in their own dedicated numbered Avid mediafiles folder to make media management easier.
