    Z840 vs Z8 G4

My reliable Z800 is still kicking along but getting a little long in the tooth.  I'm looking to upgrade.  My initial impulse was to go for the Z840.   But then I started reading about the Z8.   My question is whether the Z8 is worth the extra money?  Can MC use that extra performance or am I better of going with the 840 with a powerful graphics card?

MC 2018.4 with Symphony, Matrox MX02 Mini Max, Win 7 Pro, HP Z800 2x6-Core 3.2Ghz Xeon, 48GB ram, Quadro K4200, SanDisk Extreme 240GB SSD as system drive... [view my complete system specs]

I have a fantastic editing assistant.  He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius!    Check him out here:

Looks like our system specs are about the same, I have the GTX 1080 FTW graphics card and see no difference in render performance with or without the disable GPU effects checked in render settings. However I do see an increase in performance in Resolve, 4K renders are better than real time.

That being said I’m in the same boat as you, 4K multiple effects and multiple streams on the Avid timeline have slowed things down.  I have some 8K-VR footage, which in Mocha VR is dead slow on renders so I’ll be watching this thread.
