I'm not successful getting video from my laptop through my new Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt to my monitor.
Avid Media Composer 2018.10 beta
macOS 10.12.6
Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid 2014), 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR3
I've tried several BM drivers including
Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Macintosh_10.9.7 - Avid gave an error message that this driver wasn't going to work
Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Macintosh_10.9.11
and
Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Macintosh_10.11.2
On the Avid project Info page, it lists
Available Hardware
-Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt
I've attached a HDMI cable from the output to the monitor.
What I don't see in the Settings is the Video Output Tool. It is listed in the Tools menu, but is greyed out.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Harry
Does the Mac see the attached hardware? Does the BM control panel *outside of MC) see the hardware and allow you to configure it?
If the Mac doesn't see it neitehr will MC.

The Macbook see it, when I look into System Report / Thunderbolt.
The BM control panel is in the System Preferences, and opens its own window where you can configure the output.
Interestingly, when I plugged the device in this morning a message came on screen, something like 'device needs to update software'. Five minutes later, a progress bar on that announcement went away and the next message was 'unplug your device to recycle the power'. I'm thinking this is all good news. Recycled power. Started AMC and....
Nothing. Video Input Tool is still greyed out.
On the oft chance that you've either got BM software that's conflicting with itself or that didn't see the Avid installation when it was first installed, try this:
Uninstall the BlackMagic Desktop Video software.
Uninstall Avid
Reinstall Avid
Reinstall BlackMacgic Desktop Video. (DON'T use the latest version, 10.11.3.)
Must think of something clever to go here...
Just tried that, with no success.
I did try the 10.11.3 driver. It crashed AMC on the splash screen three straight times, so I removed and AMC started up fine. Then I installed 10.11.2 and it started up. But no video. Audio plays through the HDMI cable.
Thanks for the responses.
Yeah, there was a reason to not install 10.11.3.
Since the audio is playing through HDMI, here’s another question:
What is the frame rate and format of the project and does your monitor support that natively? If in doubt, try a 720p or 1080i project as a test.
I tried every output setting per your suggestion. The monitor screen displays a graphic of the new frame size / speed every time it changes. No go.
I've installed BM drivers from 10.9.5 through 10.11.2 (yes, you said don't install .3).
I've also installed AMC versions back to 8.5.1.
Replaced the HDMI cable and Thunderbolt cable.
The kicker is I opened Premiere 2017 and it played out to the monitor fine, picture and sound. So the box is working.
This may be a stupid suggestion, but the client monitor is enabled in the timeline?
ACK! JOB! That was it. You nailed it!
I knew there was audio mute button on the Timeline, but never thought about a video output button. And when that is activated, the Tools / Video Output Tool selection is no longer greyed out.
Thanks for all the responses.
Awesome! Figured since you did see the V-sync flips, it must be something like that. Happy editing, Harry!
I have tried all the things on the thread, but still no video out via my BM Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt. I does work when I use it with Premiere Pro.
I got the video to work via my Black Magic Intensity (Thunderbolt) once I upgraded my BM driver to 10.9.10.
Unfortunately I cannot chage the audio to patch to anywhere besides the HDMI to client monitor once the BM is enabled.
I setup my Mac Audio Midi setup to multiple devices (digital out + Black Magic Intensity), but that has no effect within Media Composer. That setup works for Premere or any other program.
