Full Screen Playback - crashes out

Everytime I try to enter full screen playback both monitors go white and Media Composer goes unresponsive. Have to end task and re-launch. Full screen playback used to work with version 7.0.4 and an earlier version of 8 (I believe 8.4 but I'm not sure).

Has anyone else run into this issue and found a workaround?

    Have tried:

    -NVidia drivers 340.84 / 353.82 (Windows 10 only, failed to load) / 385.08

-NVidia control panel solution as listed in thread http://community.avid.com/forums/t/183957.aspx

    -Enabling Windows Desktop Composition http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/How_To/Enable-Desktop-Composition-in-Windows

-Switching the playback monitor between the main (Displayport connection) and the 2nd (DVI connection)

    System:

    HP Z840

    Windows 7 SP1

    Quadro K4200

    Media Compser 8.10

Re: Full Screen Playback - crashes out

I'd start with installing the recommended nVidia driver for the MC release You're running, and configure it as per the readme file instructions. Not sure about Desktop Composition with Your MC release.

    Thanks for responding.

According to this article on the Knowledge base (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/en267087) the correct driver for MC 8.10 is 385.08. That's what I have installed now. I have tried the defualt configuration as well as the "performance preferred" as listed in a previous thread and linked in my 1st post. None of that has worked.

Re: Full Screen Playback - crashes out

I don't even use qualified gpu's and dont have issues with full screen playback (i use a 1080ti, and 1050 ti).

    1) Rather than just manually fixing windows settings try running AVID ASDT (google it, install it, run it)... click base analyzer, click all the red errors and click fix.  This should fix a lot of windows settings, with the exception of around 2-3 network ones which should be fine.

    2) try changing video display settings in media composer, and try disabling gpu (at least to test) and try changing other options.

    3) Upgrade and use newer versions of Media Composer.  My every day version is the current 2018.8.  Codecs change over time, windows updates change things, etc etc.  Im currently editing a documentary in UHD with 14tb of footage and its working pretty well.

my current setup: win10pro, diy 7820x computer w/ asus strix mobo, 128gb ram, media composer 2018.8.  I never used 2018.7 since it was super unstable (i used 2018.5 for a while), i'm just adding that detail to show that I do have standards when it comes to new versions.

MC 2018.12.1, diy x299 7940x 4.7ghz OC, 1080ti, 128gb ram, w10 pro (1803) DM me on instagram for tech Q's: dvhaime [view my complete system specs]

    Matt,

Did you solve your problem? I have the same problem but on a different setup: on 2018.12.3 (just upgraded from 8.8.4) on Win 7 Pro. Before I run Avid ASDT as recommended by cls105, I thought I'd find out what exactly the issue is.

Never found a solution. Had a several-week-long back and forth with Avid Tech Support and tried everything they offered but nothing fixed it.

My assumption is that it has more to do with either Windows 7 or my graphics card. I even tried rolling back versions of the software and it would still crap out. Maybe something firmware / hardware on my graphics card gave out and until I attempt a new machine or swap cards I'll never know.

    Hey Matt and Joyce

Can you try to create a new project on your local drive and import some file locally, then try to do a Full Screen Playback and check if that will work?  I assume you are still on 8.10?

Joyce, what version are you on?

When you say "local" do you mean "internal?" I have only one volume on my C: drive (+ 1 boot backup) and media drives are all external. Will try importing media from a USB 3 drive and report back later today. I am on 2018.12.3 (upgraded from 8.8.4 a few weeks ago) but Win 7 Pro (SP1). Full screen playback worked fine on 8.8.4

I am not sure I know how to install the Sentinel Driver separately or the Nvidia driver v411.95 (Read Me p.3 , item C).

The result is just the same. Both monitors go black and then the Avid background gray seems to come back, but no key works. I have to go to the task manager and force end the program. At least with a new project I don't have to reboot.
