Hi, I was wondering if it’s possible to export multiple sequences from Avid but with different export settings (different codecs mainly).
I would like to be able export a load of QuickTimes over night.
Any help or advice would be great
Thanks
Mike
Not if you want different export settings on each. You can export many sequences from a bin with the same settings, however.
Alternatively, you could use a 'Send To' to export your sequences to Sorenson Squeeze, in which you could then use different compression presets on each.
Hi MikeyB, thanks for this! I was wondering if I can 'send to' to Adobe Media Encoder?
Hi, Yes, you can Send To AME - at least in principle. Send To normally exports your Sequence as a QT Reference file, and there are limitations as to what will work.
For example, not all codecs work - Avid DNxHD or ProRes are fine, but XDCAM HD is not - and the Sequence must not contain any Linked clips - only mxf media. That said, I have set up a Send To template for AME and it works well.
if your sequences don't work as QT Ref exports, you could export as 'Same as Source' Quicktime in the Send To, but it'll take much longer and may not be worth it.

The latest version of Media Encoder no longer supports QT Reference files - you can use the 2017 version though.

That's odd - I'm using the latest version of AME and it works fine with QT Ref. However, you may be right that support for it may not last forever...
Thanks for all your responses and advice, I've actually found a workflow that works really well for my purposes - by creating a watch folder inside media encoder which includes the presets that I want my sequences encoded to, I batch export my sequences in Avid as same as source and path them to the corresponding watch folder on my drive at Finder level. Once that folder starts populating with the SAS QTs from Avid, the encode inside media encoder is triggered and all the SAS QTs are encoded to the presets inside the watch folder in AME. Beyond that, if I create folders inside my finder level watch folder and name them to the same names as the presets ie'H.264' 'Custom' or 'DNX' media encoder is clever enough to sort them into those folders. Great stuff!
