    Best codecs for You Tube

    Hello,

I'm trying to export a video to be put on You Tube but my codecs are making everything look thinner and grainy.  I've tried H.264 and MPEG4.  Are there any others I should trying?

    Thanks in advance,

    John

Re: Best codecs for You Tube

Should mention I have'nt been able to export with same as source.  That could be the problem.  When I do attempt it, I get this message

Long GOP media can not be exported using same as source.  Please select a custom resolution or transcode to an I-frame only resolution instead.

I have no idea what this means.

    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

    John

You should do a video mixdown first.   Then try exporting the mixdown track as a same-as-source.   If this works, there are some Sorenson MP4 pre-sets that are optimized for YouTube.

Thanks Terry.  What resolution should I use.  It has DNxHD 145 MXF selected but when I hit OK, nothing happens.

Do a mixdown (both audio and video) and then make a copy of your sequence.   Open the duplicated sequence and delete all tracks except the mixdown tracks.   Then export as a same-as-source.  If the sequence is long, try exporting as a Quicktime Reference.  It will be faster and take up less space.   Then import the same-as-source or QT ref into Sorenson and transcode to MP4 for YouTube.

Re: Best codecs for You Tube

Before I can do that I need to figure out what is going on with my drive space.  Under target drive (for mixdown) I am getting the message 'All drives filtered out' and below it says 0 MB available.  Below resolution it says 'About 108820 MB required'

Re: Best codecs for You Tube

Could it be that because I'm using my drive in source browser mode and not importing the footage the reason I'm having this difficulty?
