    Naming your auto-sync clips

I haven't been doing log work for a long time, now I am sitting with a low budget short film so I need to refresh my logging info :)

I want to do the best logging workflow possible, so that the onlining at the end will be easypeasy.

After I autosync my clips, how important is the naming?

Should I give it the transcode video file's name? Or the original video file's name? And then make a column with scene & take nr.

Or should I just name them how I want? as when I match frame the original name comes up anyways. I just donøt know how the onlining will work later on.

I used AMA to input my files. But as the camera resets the file numbers each time, there are a lot of files with same number.

Thank you for any usefull tips!!

Online/conform is done with source/tape name and timecode. Name the synced clips any way you want.

Great! I thought so but as my info in TapeId is empty, I was a bit unsure. I guess source path is also good enough.

    Thank you :)

Look for an entry in either 'Tape' or 'Source File'. If you have neither, there will be trouble.

Many Post houses enter the source folder name as the TapeID as a precaution. But it shouldn't be needed.

A quick way of namimg the clips is to, before syncing, duplicate the sound recordists slate names (which are usually in the first column of the imported sound files to a custom column you have created, (command D) Then overwrite the clip names with these slate names after syncing. (command D)

If the sound recordist is reliable then it saves the AE/you a bunch of work.
