2018.5 - NVIDIA Quadro - Wrong Driver Requested by MC

I am posting this here, rather than opening a case because I found a solution. This is for others that encounter this problem.

I have a Windows 10 HP z400. I just upgraded to 2018.5 and got an message saying the current driver is unsupported. I had 375.86 - which was working fine with 2018.4.

The software requested 353.82 - the problem is that this is a Windows 7 / Windows 8 driver and cannot be installed on a Windows 10 system. I had to download a series of old and new Windows 10 drivers from Nvidia to figure out which one worked.

The earliest Windows 10 driver is 341.96 - I was able to launch MC and get it working.

This is for Avid's benefit, too, that they change requested drivers in the software to reflect the OS of the system.

    Thanks,

    Marc

    Upon investigation.......

We qualified and included 390.77 (win7 and win10)  to the MC installer in April 2018 which should be the driver for 2018.5

We have documented that the 353.82 driver is the one for users with Quadro 4000 cards.

    • NVIDIA Driver: The editing application supports Nvidia Driver v390.77.

If you have a Quadro 4000 graphics card remain on the Nvidia v353.82 driver.

You have an  Nvidia Quadro M5000 and are using a z400 which isn’t even qualified for these versions of MC.

    Hi Marianna,

The computer in question is a HP Z400 with a Quadro 2000. The other cards and specs are the three OTHER Avids we have (with the M5000). I cannot install 390.77 on the sytem with the Quadro 2000. The application rejected installation.

The workaround for this HP / Quadro 2000 issue was to use driver 341.96 for Windows 10.

My main issue was that Media Composer was asking for a driver version that was not Windows 10 and impossible to install. I'm not sure why it was asking for a version that would not work.

    Thanks,

    Marc

PS - I realize the z400 has "fallen off" the qualified list. But as long as it can keep working, we will keep it working. :)
