Timeline Clip Note disappears on mutet clips

I'm editing a documentary where for the first time I use the really useful feature to add timeline clip notes. I use it for adding translations from a transcript to interview tracks that are in languages I'm not able to understand. This way I don't always have to check back with the script and don't need do deal with another layer of a subtitle track that I need to keep track of when editing the clips. On a videotrack I have a TC-burn in effect that displays the timeline clip notes. Furthermore I use silent dummy audio clips for temporal OFF text, as it's quicker to edit then subcaps.

However when I have a timeline clip note on an audio track and I mute this clip the clip note dissapears. Understandable that it won't show up through the TC-burn in effect, as the clip is muted, but also the dialog box to edit the note is empty. When I unmute the clip the text is also gone. The same applies to clip note on audio clips when I pull the clip gain fader to -∞ and pull it up again - text is gone.

On video clips it's different, still not visible when the clip is muted, but when unmuted again the text appears again.

That the TC-burn in effect doesn't show timeline clip notes on muted clips is reasonable however I'd like to suggest that it still shows on clips where the clips gain fader is at -∞ and that the text is gone after mute/unmute on audio clips seems like a bug to me.

Can someone else confirm this behaviour? I'm on MC 2018.4 by the way.

    Thanks,

    Jojo

    EDIT:

just found this thread in the feature request forum, connected to information of muted clips not showing in TC windows (and moste likely TC burn in effect as well):

    Hey JoJo

I created a case and have support looking at this.   I also added TrevorA who commented on it first in the feature forum.

You guys will be notified by support of their findings. I added myself to the case as well to keep tads....

Re: Timeline Clip Note disappears on mutet clips

    Thanks Marianna,

already got contacted by support. In the meantime I tried to create a new user profile and that seemed to have solved the issue, as I couldn't replicate the issue when working with the new user profile. But interestingly when I switched back to my old user profile I also couldn't recreate the issue anymore.

    Jojo

Sounds like that profile is wonky....  I suggest you can it so you dont try and use it in error later on.

Re: Timeline Clip Note disappears on mutet clips

I'm now facing a similar problem as Jojo Likar's. As an editor, I took over a project which has been sound recorded with up to 6 different microphones. In order to be able to individually identify these later on in an advanced editing stage (in a more complicated timeline), they were synced to the image by the editing assistant in a meaningful order (A1 = Boom1, A2 = Boom 2, A3 = Speaker, A4 = Atmo 1, etc.) each track named after its corresponding micro (with the function "Timeline Clip Notes").

During editing, the former editor made volume adjustments (using the Audio Mixer) which unfortunately caused the loss of the clip note of each leveled clip.

Although I could easily recreate this clip note (by selecting "Segment Mode" + right-click), I am now on an advanced "editing stage" (with a nested and complicated timeline). The loss of clip notes means I cannot easily identify which clip belongs to which soundtrack unless I listen into each clip to find out the recording.

Since quite a few clips lost their Clip Note: here's my question: Is there a feature or trick to apply or retransmit the "Timeline Clip Notes" of the  assistant's synced sequences to  the advanced editing sequence?

    Kind regards

Re: Timeline Clip Note disappears on mutet clips

Apparently the loss of Timeline Clipnotes is a bug in our AVID version (MC 8.8.3). An explanation for that might be that this feature was quite new at the time of the release of the version.

I'm now solving the problem by:

    - selecting the respective clips via SEGMENT MODE

    - Opening AUDIO MIXER FAST MENU, ADJUST PAN/VOLS ON TRACK (back to default/0)

    - selecting the clips again (SEGMENT MODE)

    - ADD TIMELINE CLIPNOTES

Suprisingly the Clip Notes now won't disappear anymore.

Question to Marianna and/or the rest of the community: are there any experiences regarding this issue relating to the first AVID versions which offered the CLIP NOTE feature?

Re: Timeline Clip Note disappears on mutet clips

    Hi all,

I commented on this happening back when it was called "Add Comments" in previous versions of Avid (Mac).

    http://community.avid.com/forums/p/160765/811182.aspx#811182

I could never figure out how to fix the issue of the disappearing comment.

I experienced the same disappearing issue as what occurs above and benlas' workaround does work, but takes a while.  What I'm noticing now is that using when the 'note' disappears, it's actually still there, but now listed as 'nested' on the original audio track. You can see this change via the  TOOLS > TIMELINE CLIP NOTES.  So, you actually now have TWO clip notes, but only one is visable.   I know I'm a mac user, but I was getting crickets over on the mac side of things.

Also, for me a brand spanking new user profile didn't help matters.

Hope a fix can happen. I've long wanted to use this great feature, so long as it's reliable. Can I get a case# too? :-)

    Dan
