    Converting 29.97 to 25fps correctly

    Hey,

I have a 60 minute film that was edited in a 29.97 sequence. I need to convert the film to 25fps to send it over seas.

My first attempt was a failure. I opened a new 25fps project, imported the 29.97 film, transcoded it to 25fps and exported it same as source. I had lots of ghosting between cuts and movments.

Is there another way of doing this correctly?

    Thank you

What you are seeing is blending arteafacts which is a common result of simple frame rate conversions.

What you need is a motion compensated conversion. Avid can do it using fluid motion but the render times are massive.

I'd send it out for an Alchemist conversion. You will get back a 25fps version with far fewer issues.

Did you try an external encoder?

TMPGenc Mastering Works or Media Encoder?

    Do you need H264?

I was going to run it through Media Encoder and see if that works.

    Thanks

we don't know too much details about your particular situation and need...

but commenting on my very successful experiences with adobe media encoder for conversion,

i would recommend exporting your timeline at the highest resolution possible (ama out to mxf op1a dnx hrhqx as example)

and choose one of the mxf op1a setting  from adobe encoder.
