In Windows 10 - find the section where metered connection is located - forgot where I found it I think in the internet menu area but not sure - anyway click metered connection.  I did this and I have not had any windows upadate done automatically.  Now, I am not sure if that is ok and wondering if I shold at some point do the updateted - I just do not want any update to mees my computer and MC.

Automatic driver updates are disabled in an entirely different UI from the OS updates. Do a Google search for diabling driver updates in Wimdows 10 for more.

Easiest way to prevent automatic updates is to use a free 3rd party tool like "O&O ShutUp10".
Saves you a lot of work and headaches.

I had good results using the group policy editor:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-enable-disable-windows-update-automatic-updates-windows-10-a.html

For best results, I bolck internet access for editing PC's at the router, but for internet connected PC's, I used the group policy editor to give me control of downloading and installing updates.

You could try Spybot Anti Beacon...

Theres a long Youtube video that shows it being used...

O&O killed Cortana and the all start menu. There's a tiny MS utility called Windows update show hide to stop user selected updates.

Killing Cortana is the correct behavior for O&O as it's a utility designed to stop Win10 from spying on you. Cortana can only work if it's given lots of personal information about you and the computer you're on. Things like your location and web surfing activities are continually being logged and sent to the Microsoft servers. All these 'spying' activities are defaulted to being active in a normal Win 10 installation and apart from the question of the actual data usage this is consuming, a lot of people are naturally a little nervous about what Microsoft is collecting.

O&O is designed to switch off all these data collecting and telemetry services, but there are options to individually switch back-on any of these services. O&O also prompt you to make a restore point before you make the changes, so if something unexpected happens you can always restore back to the previous state.

While I understand the privacy implications of Cortana, I reckon that Windows with no start menu is not usable very much. Perhaps MS wants You to have no other options than giving away Your data, or not using Windows at all....

Agreed, although the times I've used O&O (or Spybot Anti beacon) I've never had this problem, so I'm not sure what happened in your case.

    Were you using version 1.6?
