In practical terms, the ability to upgrade the OS to 10.13.3 means we can also fix a known, nagging issue where copying/handling files over a local network would result in Finder crashes. I've just upgraded to 10.13.3 and 2018.2, have tested, and can confim this finder crash issue is now a thing of the past! Thanks Avid!

Re: Media Composer v2018.2 -- NOW AVAILABLE

There is a new version out, v2018.3. At least on the PC side of it.

I'm still on 8.10, couple of bugs, I will only bother to update if a couple of really annoying bugs are gone.. They're more like interface details that were forgotten than bugs:

    - If I solo a sound track, or mute a sound track in the Timeline for a clip loaded in the left window of the Composer (rushes then, not my current sequence), when I hit play, it's the sequence which starts to play. Very annoying. It sort of makes sense from a programming point of view, as indeed the forefront window is the Timeline. But from an editing point of view, it's a waste of time. Previous versions of MC behaved the way the editor expected and at some stage it was broken and never fixed.

    - 8.10 (or was it 8.9?) brought back the possibility to navigate in the mixer using the Tab key. That had disappeared with the new narrow mixer - it just wasn't programmed at all. But the way it was brought back is half baked: if I click on the fader, I can change its level with the Up/Down arrow keys on the keyboard (or Shift arrow to move by a full dB per stroke), but I can't move to the next fader with Tab. I can only move to the next fader if I click on the dB display at the bottom of the mixer. Of course one can argue that I should retrain my muscle memory, but I disagree: if you give me a mixer that looks like a real mixer, then you have to expect me to put my finger (I mean mouse) on the fader. And afterall, the "old" wide mixer behaves more logically.

Those two are very annoying bugs (again, as I wrote earlier, they're more missing features that used to exist than bugs) as those are tools which an editor uses hundreds of time per day, if not thousands.

That one is a bit slim on the description side:

Bug Number: MCCET-2300. Match Frame was not working properly for audio on a group clip.

I guess I'll have to try the new version and see...

Do I still need to un-install 18.1 before installing 18.2?

    Thanks

It is supposed to work, but honestly I have just always use the uninstall/install method to prevent any potential issues.

And BTW, 2018.3 is out now as well.
