Media Composer 8.9.3 DV/HDVCapture and Full Screen Playback Issue.

I used to do a lot of video editing with semi pro programs such as Adobe Premiere and Media Studio Pro but it all took a backseat for a number of years due to various reasons. About 18 months ago I wanted to get back into video production and editing with a reputable professional editing program and tried out Media Composer 8.4.4 (the latest version at the time).

With that version I had an issue with trying to capture DV and HDV. I was active on the forums at the time which noted a bug with the software regarding this. I really wanted to give AMC a go and certainly for the price of a perpetual license, I needed the software to function properly for me. After a number of months with no fix, I had to abandon it (the bug was apparently eventually resolved several months later in version 8.5).

Fast foward to last week, I decided to give AMC another go again with a download trial version (8.9.3 - the latest version available on trial from the Avid website). I wanted to seriously trial AMC before committing to the big dollars for a licence. After some tinkering around, I finally got DV and HDV capture going but I encounted a couple of issues.

As I am working with PAL, I first attempted to capture from a DV tape via firewire in DV 25 420 MXF format in a PAL 25i profile setting. The issue I found is that the capture screen during playback was fully green with anomlies and flickering whilst the video was playing. If I tried to capture, it would stop after a few seconds with an error message (can't remember what the exact message was). If I played around with switching between the resolutions (DV 25 411 MXF and DV 50 - both of which of course won't work) and then switching back to DV 25 420 MXF, the green screen disappeared and I could see the video playback and was able to capture no problems. This problem seems intermittant where sometimes I can capture first go and other times I get this annoying green, anomaly plagued screen. Again, if I play around switching resolutions/format back and forth, it works. Maybe a bug with this version?

The second issue is Full Screen Playback. I have a dual monitor set up and use a LCD TV as a third monitor just for Full Screen Playback. I have a Quadro NVS 420 video card that can allow me to run up to 4 monitors. I also use the latest version of Windows 10 64bit with 8gig of ram on a intel dual core processor. The issue is I can set up the 3rd monitor/TV for FSP but I only get a still frame (the first frame lined up from the video timeline) and won't play the video. When I stop the video, the still frame changes to the last frame the timeline stopped at. The source monitor on one of the other monitors plays the video fine along with the audio.

Before anyone questions the that it's the type of video card I'm using, FSP was working fine when I first tried AMC in version 8.4.4 some 18 months earlier and I had the same hardware setup back then too. I've tried all the video display settings and the FSP monitor/TV is set at 32bit. Is there something I've missed to get FSP working correctly?

Try a different video card driver. If it does not work for the current version of MC, try first supported drivers for older MC versions ....
