Is there any legitimate reason, why Avid is still not caching thumbnails? The feature of switching to thumbnail view has always been pretty much unusable this way.
Not sure what version you are on as that hels when you post ( MC version and OS ) but we added additions to thumbnail caching back a while ago.
You can now establish how much memory should be utilized for caching thumbnails in memory as well as on the disk.
To specify the size of the Disk cache and Memory cache perform the following.
To set the Media Cache:
In the Settings list in the Project window, select Media Cache. The Media Cache dialog box opens.
If you want to change the default location of the Cache folder, click the Set button and choose the location for the Cache folder.
Enter a value for the Disk Cache Size and Memory Cache Size.
Click OK.
Note: You can clear the cache from the cache folder by clicking the Flush button in the Media Cache dialog.

I'm opn 8.6. I will give it a try. Thanks!
Hi,
i tried this and it actually speeds up the system if you use thumbnail disk cache. But for some reason the cached files are deleted soon after I close the bin in somewhat randon time. The setting is to 10GB which is almost impossible to reach. Version I use is 8.9.4. Is it a bug?
So I answer myself. What is stored on disk is not a cache, but just a place where it temporary stores thumbnails. At least on any MAC version I have tried (8.9.4, 2018.11).
Working with thumbnails makes opening bins slower significantly. If the cache worked it would actually help it. Please AVID try to make it work.
