Mac Pro 2008 & Pro Tools & Media Composer 1st

Hi all, this is my 1st post,

I had a wee look round, couldn't find, so am asking/posting

My Mac Pro 2008 has 8 gig, with varios OS's on internal drive's from Leopard to El Capitan. Regardless what Avid says, I can/am running Pro Tools 7.4.2 right up to 12, fast, no problem.

However, am going round in circles trying to install Media Composer. I'd like to try the free version, but have downloaded & have as yet not been able to launch. Avid says my Mac's to old, but I've had all this with PT & it's, as I said, absolutely fine!? Is it my grapics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB) What version can I use?

    Please advise

    Many thanks

    Paul

    Hi there Paul,

Welcome to the forums...   If you are trying to use the latest MC | First then you need to a. know it is derived from its big brother MC so it has the same requirements.

    http://learn-cdn.avid.com/Mac%20Current%20CPU%20Specifications.pdf

    MacOSX Minimum requirements....

    Computer: Avid-qualified Mac-based computer
OS: Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10) and Mavericks (10.9) Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11) Mac OS X Sierra (10.12)

Processor: Intel quad-core i7 or Quad Core Xeon

8 GB RAM minimum or 16+ GB RAM minimum required to support Media Composer | Cloud, background transcoding/render, Dynamic

MediaFolders, full-framestereoscopic3D,FrameFlex4Kworkflows,RawformatAMAplug-ins,LongGOPmedia editing, and other high- performance workflows

o RAM listed is what Avid tested as part of the qualification process. Adding more memory is supported as long as it adheres to the manufacturer’srecommendation

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce family, Intel HD Graphics, ATI/AMD Radeon family (as supported by Apple)

Internal hard drive: Minimum 250 GB 7200 rpm SATA drive, 128 GB SSD

My thought is the Macbook is not beefy enough.... and your graphics card is no longer listed as supported.

Re: Mac Pro 2008 & Pro Tools & Media Composer 1st

I thought I underlined a few things. Looked like it replaced the post with dashes! Sad

In a nutshell it was saying, with the specs in the signature below (Quadro 4000 2GB is Mac edition as GUI) these are combinations that work:

    1. OS 10.8.5      MC 8.4.4

    2. OS 10.10.5    MC 8.8.0

    3. OS 10.11.6    MC 8.9.1

    MacPro 2008 3,1 | 26GB Ram | Quadro 4000 GTX 980ti | MC 8.8.0 | OS 10.10.5 10.11.6 | MOTU HDX-SDI | ATTO R644 | LaCie 324 | [view my complete system specs]

    Hello mate,

Thats weird.... I saw a reply from you earlier, but now it's gone!? What you were saying looked the same as what I thought. Could you re-post please.

I am running it on a 2011 MBP i7 16 gig ram and 1028 ATI Radon and it runs great as I see it you are short on RAM  (A BIG DEAL) and Graphix card RAM (A VERY BIG DEAL) just get a referbished MBP and all will be well
