Hi,
had and have to do a lot of "burnt in" subtitles. Normally I use title tool, but I wonder if there is a better way converting text files into subtitles, a plug in e.g.?
SubCap does not seem to be the right answer for me, as my clients just sends me doc files without any timecode data. If I got it right subcap needs a special kind of file?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
See this tutorial by Douglas Bruce. He shows you hot to use Boris Red to do subtitles, but in the process he prepares the text using an app called Avisub - that might help you turn a doc file into subtitle file.

No, it doesn't. You can import files coming from a subtitling app, but you don't have to.
I use Subcap, it's faster than doing the titles with any TT.
You can C&P the text into a box at the bottom of the FX editor.
Yup use subcaps and cut and paste.

Hi all,
thanks for your comments. probably yes, subcap is a better option than tt, althought text editing in the master caption list is not super comfortable - but there are a lot of other benefits vs tt. will try it in depth next time. Aegisub seems also interesting for more complex work.

Love to use Subtitle Edit for Copy&Paste and TC setting. Exporting as Avid Subcap txt und using Subcap Effect.

What is editing? It´s the process of transforming a collection of badly focussed or horribly framed shots containing reversed screen directions, flare and dirt into a smooth visual statement of the script... ... for which the director takes the credit!
what u do is dis:
1. put subcap on an empty track, spanning whole timeline. enter a line of dummy text.
2. remove subcap in portions that don't need subtitles.
3. open word on second screen, resize avid to one screen.
4. let avid play, stopping when you feel that you've heard enogh text for one subcap box. make an H cut in subcap effect. make paragraph in word after translation of text for dis box.
5. ????
6. open master caption list, copy-pasta sentence by sentence without stopping or listening.
Does anyone know how to make single line captions on the bottom of a two line box? Some of my captions require two lines of text, but when I enter just a single line it appears on the top - which looks wierd. I can't seem to move it to the bottom of the text box, or whatever it's called. Otherwise subcap works great.
In the Box Appearance section, go to the second pop-up menu - you have a choice of "Anchor to Bottom of text" or "Anchor to Top of text". Once you change this setting, you'll probably need to alter the Anchor Y positon as well
Great, thanks -
