Hi,
As per the subject - Sits there on "Initializing Audio Effects" for about 60 seconds then crashes with: "The Application Avid media Compoesr First has quit Unexpectedly"
OSX - 10.12.6
Imac - i5 - 16GB
Reinstalled Media Composer First - Didn't help
Reapired HDD etc - Didn't help
I do run pro tools on the same system and have plugins on a separate drive.
Any ideas please?
Thanks everyone.
Hi artisan,
Do you have 3rd party plugins installed? You can try moving the plugins to unused folder Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/ for Mac. MC|First will support AAX and AVX plugins that are ONLY purchased from the Marketplace.
Thanks,
RalphC
Hi RalphC,
Thanks for the info.
I had a look in the plug-Ins folder and they are all aax plugins. Some were purchased from native instruments and waves however.
Anyway, I just moved all of the plugins to the unused folder as a test and MC First loaded fine..
Do I really need to move the non avid marketplace plug-ins to the ununsed folder every time I intend to use MC First?
Why doesn't MC First simply ignore the plugins that it can't use instead of crashing?
The goal is to puchrase the full MC version but I can't do that without at least editing on First for a little while just to test it out.
Thanks again.
So I've tried it on the PC and now have a different issue.
FatalExcpt Exception: Can't create a directory, as one of the folders in the path below has insufficient permissions.
It points to a G:\ directory which used to be the google drive... That's no longer there.. It seems I've tried MC on this pc before and would sync to google drive..
I see the G:\ path in the "Managed AMA Media Folders" file which I moved and reinstalled MC First but to no avail.
Can someone help me get this editor working please? Really frustrating...
Can you clarify please? The previous version of MCF worked with my 3rd party AAX plug-ins not purchased from the Marketplace, are you saying that the latest version is different in that aspect?
Dennis
Hey, I have a similar problem.
Media Composer First keeps hanging on "Initializing Audio Effects", and nothing else happens. When I run the task manager, it says "Not Responding."
Any ideas?
Thanks.

MC | First is derived from the big MC so much of the same code applies which is why it lets you go from the free version to the commercial ersion without a hiccup. I suggest you name then a certian way so that you drop the folder in when you want to use PT and when you want to use MC First.

You can test it out but you cant use all the plug in's that are not compaitible with it right now.... I can send you a 30 day temp of the MC comercial if you like to make it easier to test.
Let me know.

Check your plug in folder. My take like Ralph suggested above is you have an incompatible plug in or more than one
The last update resolved many of the errors I was having. I did have 1 plug in from Ik Multimedia that gave me some issues but I was still able to open sessions. I have dozens of 3rd party AAX plug ins I use with Pro Tools and MCF does not seem to care even though I did not put them in another folder. You just can't access them from MCF.

what is the exact error?
and can you provide your complete system specifications?
Hi - Thanks for the reply.
I haven't had a chance to play with MC | First more as I had to start editing without issues and moved to another editor which has been wroking flawlessly. I did enjoy the Avid interface so will start on it again after this project is complete.
The 30day trial code sounds good for MC.
Thank you again for your help.
when ready email me and I can get you a 30 day temp.
So I rechecked the plugins folder, and it looks like MCF imported a lot of my music program plugins, including Sample Tank and Amplitube, and a few others. I moved them back to Library/Audio/Plugins, and MCF started right up!
Thanks!

I'm having the same issue. No extraneous plugins that weren't installed with the program. I remember I used to subscribe to the full MC and this was also an issue on a different computer. Never was able to fix it so I just kept using Premiere. Now I'm trying to get back into Avid but I can't even open it. First it was an issue with iLok slowing down my system to a crawl (I changed the service to manual startup, which is the only way I could even get my computer running fine again), and now it hangs on "Initializing Audio Effects".
