Re: Avid MC 8.9.3 and High Sierra Permissions issue

I suspect that the following issue may be related to this thread (I can't test as it is a student's computer at a distant location). She has OS 10.13.2 (HS) and an SSD with APFS. She's installed Media Composer but gets the following error on launch:

    SYS_ERROR, OSErr:-5000.

Certainly looks like a permissions issue. Is teh Home folder fix likely to work? TIA.

Re: Avid MC 8.9.3 and High Sierra Permissions issue

I thought if I created a second partition on my internal drive I could write to it. Instead, though it starts up without the 'no media drive' warning, it crashes when selecting Settings/Media Creation.  I created both a Mac OS Extended and an APFS flavor- both crash.   I'm running MC 2018.3.0, on High Sierra 10.13.4

It used to be cool to edit on just my laptop with nothing attached!

Re: Avid MC 8.9.3 and High Sierra Permissions issue

    I had this same issue with 2018.8, "SYS_ERROR, OSErr:-5000"

In my case it was the folder Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer which needed Read & Write permission for "Everyone."

I was unable to change the permissions using the Finder Get Info window, but was able to use the terminal command, sudo chmod -R 0777 /Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer   Media Composer now launches successfully.
