    Fail transcoding GH3 Panasonic footage

    Hi,

while browsing through the forum I saw that this's quite an old Avid issue, but I haven't seen any recent thread about it, so I hope that there's a solution.

I'm using the latest version of Avid (8.9.2). I have a footage from GH3 Panasonic camera, which I need to bring into a project most of which was shot with Sony FS7 in 3840x2160. While there were not any problems linking and transcoding Sony's footage, the one from Panasonic doesn't work. After linking the footage, each time I try to transcode Avid freezes after 10 seconds. I tried to open separate project with the right format for Panasonic, but with no luck... I've installed Panasonic plug-in, but in Source window I could not find the option for it (it detected as AVCHD and it impossible to change it). Importing the files is working, but I prefer transcoding (as far as I know, it's better or am I wrong?), is there any way to transcode GH3 footage?

    Thanks!

if avchd files, try to rewrap the files into .mov and that should do the trick

cliptoolz convert v4 or dali's mustache works great for that.

make sure you select an audio codec other that the original!

But if I convert the video wouldn't it hurt its original quality?

rewraping the files would not alter the video at all.

my experience with lumix avchd files was a problem with audio, that's why i recommended to use another codec than the original.

both apps mentioned work the same way.

in video codec pulldown menu, choose  wrap to mov

in audio codec pulldown, choose 48k 16 or 24bit for example
