Time for a "Replace Clip" button?

When working on effects heavy timelines, what slows me down more than anything is how long it takes to replace a clip which has effects associated with it.

With many effects I can step in an change the shot (which slows the Avid down in the processes).

But with things like Symphony CC effects, Motion FX, Frame Flex, LUTs, Audio Suite, levels and EQ, there's no straight forward way to replace a clip.

I've either got to save a preset and re-apply (ie: Audio Suite, Motion and CC) or write down the parameters and re-create the effect (ie: Audio levels, Frame Flex and LUTs).

I think there should be keystroke like the Replace Edit command to simply Replace the Clip but retain the associated effects.

    Let me know your thoughts,

    Jake

There's already a Replace edit command in MC, its button used to sit in the Composer window, between the Splice in and the Overwrite button, its place has been stolen by the Tool palette button long ago. Time to revive and improve it, in a 'multi effects friendly' fashion (or to redesign the way MC handles effects!).

It's sort of analagous to a word processing prgram where you can "paste and match style" over existing text.  Sort of.

Re: Time for a "Replace Clip" button?

I often layer up effects on the tracks above my source clips (like adjustment layers) so i can replace the source without digging down through nested layers but it is a faff (you have to add edits to all the filler tracks above before applying fx). This also helps out when avids getting confused about which effects to render and you end up manually rendering each one

PS you mention audio suite - is there a way to layer audio suite clip effects that i've been missing all this time?

You've been missing it for a short while, nested audio suite effects is a recent addition. You can apply an audio suite effect, step into it and apply another one; I don't remeber how many of them You can add though.

+1.  And while we're at it, the ability to mark in and out points to apply an effect without having to force timeline cuts.  You don't always need an effect to cover the entire clip.
