linking to or transcoding M4v or Dv footage

Hi, please help. My full-length film is on a Dvd transferred onto an M4v file. I need to access it on MC 8.4.2 to create a trailor.

Using Streamclip I converted the M4v file to a Quicktime movie. However, I still can't link to the film using AMC. I get the message, "Avid Editor Services are not running. Please start Services from the Avid Editor Services Manager. "Not sure what I'm supposed to click on the 'Services' Preferences. I restored it to 'Defaults' but nothing happens.

Still can't link to the .mov file (it's a 17GB file).

Can someone please walk me through this process? Thanks!

The service manager is in the Tools menu. In later versions of MC it's called Background Services. There are start and stop buttons and an icon that tells you if the services are running. And if the service manager menu isn't in the tools menu for 8.4, look elsewhere in the menus for it (things have been moved around over the various versions of MC).

There's also an icon in window's launch pad if you're using windows. Looks something like two stacked horizontal arrows. Gray for stopped, green for running, red for stopping(?).
