Re: Media Composer 8.9.1 now available...

    Hi,

My Source Browser is messing about since the latest update!

It's no longer either automatically selecting or allowing me to manually select a Plug-in for AMA linking....it's just saying "Not processed" under the Plug-in column. I'm working with buckets of archive material which have all been created the same way (exporting from a Quantel edit server) and have all worked fine up until now and all previously used clips are still telling me which Plug-in is being used.

I'm trying to link h264 mov clips which all play fine using QT player outside MC.

I have successfully managed to import a clip as a test but this isn't ideal with the amount of material I'm looking to use....and especialy as AMA has been working flawlessly up until now!!

Anyone else out there finding this or similar?

I had a similar issue in 8.9 - I could not link to Pro Res - so I went back to 8.8.5 - now everything is fine.  Seems 8.9 and 8.9.1 are very buggy - I willl be staying on 8.8.5 for awhile as my faith in these upgrades have diminshed.

    HI,

with the config below I still get some red (at the end of clip) and yelllow line (at the start of the clip) on the timeline with GH5 mov file. That effect the file output?

Thanks for that. First time I've noticed a backwards step like this on upgrading for ages.

Any help appreciated on what's the best/safest way to rollback to 8.8.5!

Pretty easy - just go through the un-install process of 8.9.1.   After completed then go to the download page and download 8.8.5 - then install.  So far for me all is ok - if you want, you may want to contact avid support before you do anything. Up to you.

Linking bugs were supposed to be addressed in 8.9.1 - but seems you came across one - maybe report it.

Can anyone confirm if this version works with two monitors with different resolutions. That used to be no problem in Avid. Then they made it a problem. I am still using 8.6.5 and can't update untill the address this.

Re: Media Composer 8.9.1 now available...

I was really excited about this release now supporting h.264 with the generic plug in.

I'd had problems in earlier releases with timecode mismatch between what Avid's AMA and transcode created and the source, which was problematic when using AAF's to link to original media for color in Resolve.

That problem seems to be resolved with the generic plugin support. However, it seems to be having some odd behavior when dealing with audio from MP4 files. Occasionally when playing back files in either the source window or in the timeline, an exception error pops up: "AMA Plugin-In Unable to Provide Sample"

    avid error

Theses sequences were pretty simple, with just some 20 frame dissolve transitions between video and audio clips. When editing one sequence this error seemed to pop up at a specific spot in the timeline, just prior to an audio dissolve transition. Removing and re-creating the dissolve seemed to fix that particuliar instance.

This also pops up when trying to transcode the sequence. It will start transcoding the media and then at some point this same error pops up.

Trying to export the sequence, the export hangs when it gets to the end with the export progress dialog box never closing. Avid is unresponsive.

Oddly enough I can export just the audio from the sequence as a wav file which works fine, then import the wav and replace the existing audio track with the wav file. I can then export the entire sequence without issue.

MP4 Files in this case are from a GoPro Hero5 Session. The source media plays back without error in apps like Premiere Pro and Resolve.

Specs on one file are as follows:

    Hi there....

This error is almost always caused by Perian being installed on the system.

Uninstall Perian immediately. Also be aware Perian has several additional files that come when installed.

Make sure you are able to uninstall all of them.

If you do not have this installed.... ping me back and I will dig into this further.

Re: Media Composer 8.9.1 now available...

I just finished editing another sequence with AMA linked h.264 GoPro media and did not see the "unable to provide sample error". However, I took a slightly different workflow this time.

Before I was doing a prelimary edit using AMA linked media and round-tripping to Resolve 14 with an AAF linking to media and choosing in Resolve to use the camera files to do the color, rendering DNxHR MXF media without rendering the audio as well. Copying over the new media and importing the AAF to then finish the editing and putting in transitions and graphics, etc...  Avid uses the new MXF media but still uses the audio from the AMA linked media. This may have been where the problem lies.

This time, I did my prelimary edit using AMA linked media and then transcoded the sequence to DNxHR LB to save space. Then round tripped to Resolve 14 as before choosing to link to the camera files when importing the AAF into Resolve. I Rendered out DNxHR MXF media including the video. Copied over the media and imported the AAF into MC. The sequence refers to the video media from Resolve, but the Avid transcoded media for the audio.

I finished out the sequence adding titles and transitions and exported without error.

So I'm suspicous that referencing the DNxHR MXF video media and the AMA linked audio may have confused MC causing this error.
