Hi all, a glitch on the special offer page: by clicking on the 'buy now' button I am taken to the regular $749 page, as hard as I tried I could not find the proper page. Same on the Avid Italia online shop, where the offer wasn't available, but it did finally show up after log in, at least. On the US shop log in or not doesn't make any difference, the thing is nowhere to be seen.
peace luca
Let me look at that Luca....

Looks like the shop is directly to the wrong SKU. They will let me knwo when it is fixed.
You can buy it online at Videoguys.com or B&H - and it is a slightly lower price.

Ouch! Almost made a big mistake!!
I already own the Symphony Option for a few years already...
And now, it's time for me to renew my support plan. I head over to my account, hit renew and I'm given two options:
- Media Composer Software with Symphony Option (520$ CDN)OR - Media Composer Software (390$ CDN)
You see how that can be misleading... ? It looks like if I want to keep Symphony, I have to pay 520$ and if I want to go back to the vanilla MC, I pay 390$...
Good thing I looked-up this page!!
No need for me to pay for the upgrade once more than I have to! :-)
Smoothest MC upgrade in years! Ordered online at Avid Italia, the MC renewal kicked in with no need of intervention. I've found activating the Symphony option circonvoluted as I was emailed the scan of a card with the so called activation code, which I had to figure that out by myself that it was in fact the download (!) code for the actual Symphony activation code. The card pointed me to www.avid.com/activationcard which gave a pretty 404 page not found error, going by memory I went to www.avid.com/activation that took me to the right Avid Software Activation and Download page, where I entered the card code and obtained the true Symphony activation code to be fed to the Application Manager. Why not sending it in the first place? I later found out that www.avid.com/activationcard works as it should if logged in from the US online store on a system with the US locale, it didn't work giving the 404 error when logged into the Avid Italia side of the shop though, FWIW, but maybe the links for non US customers have to be double checked.
First time in years I did not need help with the upgrade, ever since back at the time when Avid used to send a couple of guys with a new turnkey system perhaps, and I almost regret it: it's nice to exchange emails with Marianna! :-0
So I did this and got my activation code. I put that in the Application Manager and activated it, successfully. Fire up MC and it shows the Sympony Option activated.
Just to confirm: I don't need to download any Sympony software, right? I assume it was already there, just needing activation.
Happy Thanksgiving for those in Thanksgiving holiday parts of the world.
You are correct. The code simply unlocks features that are in the MC software. No additional install needed.
Excellent. Thank you.
Marianna - how will this work with a reseller and getting Symphony? I'd like to use them but they werent sure if teh licence wouldnt be active before my Dec31 expiration date. Seemed very fraught and scary with potentially hours on the phone sorting licenses - I still want to use my dongle too. Thanks
MC 8.6.5, Blackmagic Intensity Pro (cant get it working in 4k though...), WIN 10 on 2000Mbps M.2 SSD, Nvidia Quadro K2000, Asus X99 Mobo, 4.0 GHz Hex core CPU, 32Gb 2800 Mhz RAM, WD Black 8Tb RAID10
So in haste i renewed my perpetual licence at 11.30pm on a very busy day which was the last day of my subscription the other night and just selecteed the normal media composer not looking at the symphony option cost. can i stll get the deal?
thanks

Your reseller can sell you the Symphony option together with a 12 months renewal of your support plan. As soon as you buy them, both will become active. The Symphony option would be added to your Master Account, the 12 months of support would simply be added to your current end date.
If you need the Symphony option on your dongle, you need to get in touch with Avid, and they can manually transfer the software license into a dongle updater for you. RalphC did this for me a couple of months ago.
Also, I don't know about your reseller, and I know that I prefer to use my local one, but know that Videoguys has another 5% discount coupon action at the moment. I've dealt with them in the past, and they're good.
