    Dashboard doesn't load [SOLVED]

    -------------------------------------------

    UPDATE August 13, 2017

It's working now! Thanks Pilot and AndrewAction, your advice was amazing!

This is what worked for me:

    1. Upgraded my RAM so that I had at LEAST 6gb (in my case, I went from 4gb to 16gb)

    2. Uninstalled "First" totally, by clicking on the START menu and typing 'apps & features' then clicking the top option - "Apps & Features SYSTEM SETTINGS". Then clicking MEDIA COMPOSER FIRST and choosing UNINSTALL. Once this was finished, I uninstalled the other two items labelled Avid (App Manager and the Cloud Services)

    3. I downloaded the latest version of the full Media Composer 8.9 to the root of my C:\ drive

    4. I unzipped to a folder at the root of my c:/ drive

    5. I installed the full version of Media Composer

    6. Rebooted

    7. Opened the Avid Application Manager then Preferences and clicked the Clear Cache button.

    8. Uninstalled Media Composer - by clicking on the START menu and typing 'apps & features' then clicking the top option - "Apps & Features SYSTEM SETTINGS". Then clicking MEDIA COMPOSER and choosing UNINSTALL. Once this was finished, I uninstalled the other two items labelled Avid (App Manager and the Cloud Services)

    9. Rebooted

    10. Downloaded the latest Media Composer First to the root of my C:/ drive

    11. I unzipped to a folder at the roof of my c:/ drive

    12. I installed Media Composer First

    13. Rebooted

    14. Opened the APP MANAGER

    15. Clicked on ACCOUNT tab and signed in

    16. Checked that in the ACCOUNT tab it says "Media Composer | First" then 'Perpetual'

    17. Clicked the APPS tab

    18. Checked that next to 'Media Composer | First' there is blue text saying 'Open' (it's super important to make sure this says 'open' here - if it says 'sign in' or anything else you need to go back through the steps and double check them all)

    19. Clicked the blue text saying 'open'

Hi everyone! (especially hi to Marianna)

I had some quick thoughts that I wanted to pass on...

    - I've installed on a truly crap laptop PC just to see what 'normal' experience might be. (windows 10 pro, 64 bit)

    - I think a graphics card is required for this software - yes? this shoudl be clearer, as my friends have told me that they searched and could only find that they needed windows 10 pro 64 bit, which they have... So I think everything needs to be much clearer that it can't work without a card,

    - the Application Manager doesn't automatically load, so avid warns me to quit and load it and reopen the app - this happens every time! very confusing also as this is a 'free' app.

    - when I first installed it said I could run without quicktime (with some features missing) but then I kept getting an iLok error lol. I installed quicktime and it went away. the ilok errors are super confusing though - I would have given up if I didn't alreadyknow what they were trying to tell me

    - this computer is clearly too crap to run First - no dedicated graphics card. But can you please add some kind of elegant "the issue is that you dont have XXX"? The software has loaded, apparently, and has gotten all the way to opening the inferface, and just stops. If I click anywhere the computer just beeps. A normal user may not understand why this is happening.

I'd attach a screenshot but there is still no image upload on the forums! damnit :-)

    Anyway, hope that is useful!!!

    cheers

    Toby

By the way, another confusing thing is that the Q&A sticky post on this forum says that First doesnt require iLok or any other device.

Obviously, it does - it requires iLok software - as it has given me plenty of errors during installation lol

    Hi.

    Toby:
    - I've installed on a truly crap laptop PC just to see what 'normal' experience might be. (windows 10 pro, 64 bit)

So, you have good laptop because can to run Win 10 Pro 64 Bit  :-)

My simple laptop run MCF without external graphic card.

    Check your windows firewall.

It's nice if iLok error disappeared after QT was installed.

    Try Alt+F4 ))

    What your laptop specs?

    What version MCF you run?

    Hi Pilot! Thanks for responding!

Alt-F4 does work - it brings up the "LEAVE THE APPLICATION?" dialogue box.

Why does nothing else work? Is there an off-screen dialogue box that I can't see???

I'd love to know what you see when you first start up 'First', and what the key combinations are to get it started.

I'm running Media Composer First 8.9 and my laptop specs are:

    - HP EliteBook 2560p

    - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2540M CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

    - 4gb of ram (I know this is below the 8gb recommended)

    - Windows 10 Pro (Version 10.0.15063 Build 15063)

Here's a screenshot of where I'm stuck and the application just beeps whenever I click anywhere on the screen (other than the taskbar at the bottom) or press any key:

I've installed first on two "low spec old" laptops so far without issue. Both had onboard generic graphics.

On both I did install the minimum QT components so didn't get any ilok warnings or QT warnings.

After start up app manager takes quite a while to load and then sign in so I can't Lanch First until that has happened.

But once App manger is loaded and signed in First launches and runs ok.

Currently users are running effectively version 1 of MC First so I expect things will change and improve as versions roll out.

Hmmmm - maybe its the intel HD 3000 onboard graphics that is the issue?

    Re: Some 'first' feedback :-)

    Toby,

have you Intel Video Driver installed ?

    For your machine :

    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61864.exe

    Info for first start up:

    Marianna:

With Media Composer | First, a user needs to successfully log into Application Manager ONCE.

Unless the user specifically Logs Out, AppMan will hold onto the users information and Media Composer | First will continue to run. Even if the user doesn’t have an internet connection.

From there, even if the user quits Media Composer | First,  they do not need to log in again.

Lastly, with AppMan 17.6,  if a user clicks the “Clear Cache Files” button, they will be prompted with a message that this action will log them out. Therefore requiring a log in the next time.

You need start up MCF only via Application Manager :

    Re: Some 'first' feedback :-)

That's actually the older driver for the HD3000 - I have a newer one installed.

And yes, I have application manager working fine and I followed all those instructions.

There's obviously a bug with my particular setup, OR for some reason the dialogue box is off-screen when it is loaded, and I cant click anything

I followed all those tips - I just install Media Composer 8.9 (the full software) and uninstalled then re-installed Media First. Still does exactly the same thing. Argh!

Is there a way to get Avid support to look into this?

It's possible that you can not run the MC | First, because your laptop has  only 4 GB RAM.

"RAM:  Media Composer | First requires 6 GB minimum, 8 GB or more recommended; 16 GB or more when working with UHD or high frame rate media".
