Blackmagic 4K 12G SDI VERSION NOT WORKING IN 2160P

    Hello,

I just spent a lot of money on buying this card, which Avid said supports 2160p60 out the ports - the 12G version still downconvers to 1080P.  Avid, you told me to buy this card, and it's still downconverting to 1080P.

I want an explanation right away as to why i was misled.  I need to return this card immediately.  This is not acceptable.

Creating a new UHD 59.94P project - same problem as the non-12G SDI version.

From Daniel Huber, who works at Avid:

    And I quote:

As you have seen using 10.6 BMD driver with MC 8.7.2 works, but changes have been made that have changed this ability in later versions of their driver and our software.

They are aware of the change that was made due to the current Open I/O architecture.
The Open I/O can’t handle a format being output only.  Which is what your current card does, is only output at that resolution.

So you have to suppress the entire format, in this case, UHD 2160p 59.94.
On a card that supports "both input and output" at that format (like the Decklink 4K Pro or Decklink 4K Extreme 12G) then the format will work for output.

So I bought the Decklink 4K Extreme and it still downconverst to 1080P.

    Also Marianna writes

"I actually found the issues with the BMD 4k card that you are commenting about!  Problem was that the new Open IO code was crashing MC and corrupting the project for UHD 5994!  The fix was to remove any formats that did not do both playback and capture!   That is the fix and it will not change unless BMD fixes their end.....

    Marianna"

Marianna, the 4K Extreme 12G-SDI version supports both playback and capture of UHD 60P. So why am I being downconverted to 1080P still ??? Do I need to re-install Avid Media Composer. I need a resolution on this or I have to return this $$$ card.

    thanks

Marianna is out on vacation till the 31st. I've forwarded this thread, along with the original thread, to RalphC and asked him if he could take a look at it.

Re: Blackmagic 4K 12G SDI VERSION NOT WORKING IN 2160P

    Hi AsafBlasberg,

I sent this to hardware engineer, they talked with the developer and found the problem.  The basic issue was that the Decklink 4k Extreme and UltraStudio 4k do not support input (capture) for UHD at 50, 5994, 60p.  This was causing several fatal issues in MC. The developer is working on a fix now and hopefully it will make to the new release. Bug BMD-264.

You can run MC 8.8.1 and the declink 12G should work ar UHD 60p.

    Hi Ralph,

Thank you so much. OK, I'm going to downgrade to MC version 8.8.1 with the Decklink Extreme 12G-SDI card that I now have.  I'll report back to confirm that in fact I am able to get the UHD 60p out of the BMD card with Media Composer.

I sold my Decklink 6G-SDI card and got the 12G-SDI version instead, because that card has a UHD to HD downconverter, which is essential for my new workflow.

I'm glad that this is being addressed.

    My best regards,

    Asaf

    Asaf,

BMD released Desktop Video version 10.9.5 today (7/20/2017).  Was wondering if you tried this version before downgrading to 8.8.1?

    Hi Keith!

So it looks like I did in fact test 10.9.3 with 8.8.1 and that combination works perfectly.  Yaay! In terms of 10.9.5 and 8.8.5, I did not test yet. Perhaps I should try?
