Hi all,
I'm trying to use a LUT created in Resolve within Avid but my new version of Resolve 12.5 seems to only create xxx.cube_shapeLUT format LUT files which Avid doesn't recognise. Can anyone tell me how to create a standard xxx.cube file that Avid will read?

I have done it the following way:
1. In Resolve (Color Mode) place a LUT on a clip in the timeline, by rightclicking the node and select the LUT you want to use.
2. Now right-click the clip and select "Generate 3D-LUT". This creates a LUT which can be used in MC. You will find it with the clip name in the lsit of LUT's.
3. Import the LUT into Media Composer by usung the Source Setting/color. Resolve stores the LUT's under C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT.
4. You may use Windows Explore and copy the desired LUT from the Resolve location to the following Avid MC folder:
C:\ProgramData\Avid\ColorManagement\LUTs.
Good luck,
Joachim

Thanks for the answer Joachim. That is the way I have been creating LUT's but it seems to only create them in xxx.cube_shapeLUT format which Avid doesn't recognise. I just need to create a .cube file.

I have just tested it with different LUT's, and Resolve created .cube files. After adding a LUT to the node in Resolve, right-click the clip in the timeline and select "create 3D-LUT (cube)". The created file is a .cube file with a name, that has the clipname as an extension before the .cube, e.g. Test-LUT-0115003.cube. The created LUT can be imported from Avid Source setting/color management.
I have just tested it with two different LUT's within Resolve, and the 3D-LUT's are created as .cube files, which can easily imported into MC.

Hmmm! I'll have another go. Which version of Resolve are you running Joachim?
I had initially Resolve 12.5, and it worked there as well. Now I run version 14 Beta 5, when I made the tests, mentioiened in the previous posts.
Thanks Joachim,
I followed your instructions and success. I was trying to export the LUT from the Edit timeline rather than the Color section. This is how it is described in the Resolve manual but this creates a .shaperLUT
