    Poor quality on background transcoding

I've noticed that the transcodes I'm doing using background services aren't usable, but with the same exact footage and settings, the normal transcodes come out correctly.

I'm using footage shot on a Canon C100 - 1080/30PF and editing in a 1080-29.97p project. Same settings and camera as I use 90% of the time. Using normal transcode the footage is perfectly transcoded to DNxHD 145 1080/30p. Using the background transcode with the same exact settings the footage comes out looking half-res with visible aliasing that looks like it's either half-res or didn't handle the interlace to progressive issue correctly. 30PF footage records a progressive frame over in an interlaced container file... it's pretty common.

Any thoughts? Are there separate settings for the background transcodes?

Not sure why the different behavior, shouldn't happen I think.

However - before transcoding, did you enable the "Field Motion" column in your source bin, and set it all to be interpreted as Progressive?  MC (or plugins) often doesn't interpret PSF media properly, particularly AVCHD, perhaps other formats too.  Enable the column, select all the clips, click on one, change it to Progressive - the rest will follow.  That might help.

Thanks. I thought the "Field Motion" column was an indication, not a set-able option. I'll try this. Could very well be the issue.
