Hello,
I am currently using AVID Media composer 8.4 on one of our computers and am having many issues importing MXF footage shot on my C500. I have downloaded the MXF plugins but my computer is having a hard time finding a route for the footage.
If i select an MXF clip individualy I can link it, but as soon as I'm one folder up stream it cant recognize it and tells me "unable to link clips at..." This is very frustrating and time consuming as I have had to import clips one at a time, or moved all the mxf clps into one folder so I could select them all at once. Either way it is not an efficient way of getting the footage into my project.
I have attached photos to show my plugins. All the footage is in the MXF folder. If i select the folder it doesnt work. If i go inside the folder and select the clips it works.
Is there something in my settings preventing my computer being able to search folders? Am I missing a plug in?
Have you tried selecting the first clip then going to the bottom of the list and Shift Click on that to select all the files?
Then press Link?
Yes I have tried that, and it actually works. In the pictures I linked it shows I choose a single file from a long list of MXF's. Thats because I had already moved all the clips into a single folder so I could import them all at once. When we import from the C500 each MXF clip is in it's own folder with it's data files and thats when my AVID is running into issues.
If I directly link the files I can import but as soon as I am 1 folder upstream it cannot seem to find them.
So I can link MXF files into my AVID projects. I either have to go into each folder and link one at a time or move each MXF file into a communal folder so I can "Shift Click" them all at once and link them. Both ways take very long and are very tedious.
Are you actually AMA linking to the correct C500 folder? It should be the contents folder with all the sub folders intact as they are from the camera. No collected MXF files.
It won't work if you step down one folder it only works at the correct folder level.

Pat Horridge:Are you actually AMA linking to the correct C500 folder?
As Pat says, you need to select the correct folder level for Avid to successfully link to the media.
With Canon cameras, th structure is usually as shown below...
This is how it comes from the camera card, and you must not change this structure at all, or move any files around. You simply put the whole folder structure within an empty folder (say, called 'Roll 001') and point Avid to this folder.
With Canon cameras, the structure is usually as shown below...
Contents - Clips001 - CM001
- CM002
- CM003
