Capturing old dv tapes with 32 k audio

I'm working on a project that relies on old dv tapes from 1996 that have 32k audio.  The audio drop down menu only goes to 41k.  I'd like to capture the video and audio an then up convert the audio.

Leave the project rate at 48K. Start the capture tool, right-click on it to bring up the capture settings and select the Batch tab. Make sure the "Use the audio sample rate logged for each clip" is NOT checked. Capture the tapes as normal. It should convert the audio on the capture.

I did that and stil no luck.  I changed to a tape from another shoot that also has 32k audio.  It captures about 15 seconds then stops and I get the same error message: You have captured material that contains portions whose audio sample rate that does not match the audio project setting of 48000.  These portions will have suffered some quality degradation.  Do you want to keep this clip?

I tried that but the I got the same error message.  I'm playing the dv tape on a Sony DSR 45 using firewire.  I shut down the computer and  I switched the output on the deck to 32k then turned it off and then everything on again.

Re: Capturing old dv tapes with 32 k audio

Have you tried changing your Deck Setting to GENERIC - DVTranscoder-NTSC  In the past, it has allowed me to "wild" capture DV tapes via firewire. Not sure it will do the trick in your case.

Sorry. Does the Capture tool allow you to change Audio to analog, while keeping video on firewire? If so, can you patch from camera's line out or headphone jack?

Are you saying that you cannot switch to 32 khz in the audio setings / scrolldown , with your I/O device disconnected.

What I/O device , what version of Avid , have you tried with a new user

Re: Capturing old dv tapes with 32 k audio

Jay, go into the project settings, select Audio Project, and from the Main tab see if you can change the sample rate to 32k. If it's grayed out, exit the dialog and make sure that any I/O hardware (e.g. Black Magic, Matrox, AJA, etc.) is inactive (use the HW/SW button on the timeline) and then try again. You should be able to change it with the firewire plugged in (I can), but if not, unplug the firewire and then try. And if that doesn't work, and you haven't created a new user profile as per Tomas' suggestion, do so and try again.

32k is not listed on the audilo settings dropdown menu.  I'm using MC 8.8.3

32k is not on the Audio Project drop down list.  There doesn't seem to be a HW/SW button on MC 8.8.3.  I unplugged the firewire cable and rebooted.  I tried a new user profile.  No luck.

You may want to use a trial of one of the consumer editing programs. They tend to be firewire tolerant.

If you don't have any 3rd party I/O then I don't think the HW/SW button appears. However, you should see the 32K option, even for firewire (I do). What are your project settings?

Re: Capturing old dv tapes with 32 k audio

I'm closer to getting everything working thanks to help from Karen at Avid customer care.  I needed to set the frame rate at 30i for the 32k option to show up on the dropdown menu.  I can capture the footage now but I'm still having some problems playing the footage back and bringing it into a 1080 project.
