    Media Creation Setting

There used to be a setting in the "Settings" tab titled "Media Creation". Avid editors used to be able to go to this setting and pre-select the drive they wanted Titles, Renders, and Efx to go to.

Sadly, the Media Creation setting is no longer there.

But! I have good news! The exact same task can be accomplished by clicking on a blank setting at the top of the "Settings" tab. Why did avid chose to remove the name from this setting and have all these options live under a mysterious un-named blank setting tab? Was it an act of intentional disobediance to make life harder for Avid Editors? Or was it simply a mistake? Perhaps we will never know.

Huh..?  What version?  It's there for me up to MC 8.7.  Also viewable by hitting Cmd+5.  I can't ever remember any time when it went away.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

Sorry - just realized I'm in the "Mac" section of the forums. I use Mac at home, but switch to a PC when I come into the office. Maybe it's just a PC glitch. I'm on 8.7.2.44855 on a PC today and just spent an hour trying to figure out where these settings went.

I see Media Creation (as usual) in my Settings with both 8.7.2 and 8.8 on W7 SP1 machines here.

Edit add. From the Project windows Hamburger menu have you go "All settings" selected

It's been like this on all the Macs in our facility for 2-3 years now.  IIRC half our facility was running Avids on a limited amount of projects while the rest of the facility ran FCP7.  There was no problems back then.  When the transition was made back to Avid it first cropped up in a few rooms and slowly became universal.

Yes, the picture above shows the blank placeholder which lives at the top of the Settings screen.  Media Creation lost its label, and if I had to guess it moves to the top to maintain ABC order when the name "Media Creation" either disappears or is corrupted.

EDIT: - This blank area above Audio with the checkmark is a clickable field which will bring you to good ol' Media Creation settings.

And this is under multiple Avid user profiles?

What if you right click on that blank setting and select "Restore to Default"?

OR, open another settings file that works and copy that Media Creation setting over to this user.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

     - Yes - multiple users across multiple rooms.  Cheese-graters, iMacs, and a couple of trash cans are all running Avid.

    - I created a new user and it started with Media Creation as blank.  When I selected "Restore to Default" there was no change.  Tomorrow I'll see if creating a new user from the startup menu makes a difference.

    - I'd have to send out an email and see if there are any users don't have the problem - I went through all users on my machine and Media Creation was missing everywhere.

We did come across this thread at some point during investigating:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/p/133793/762269.aspx

Back when the problem was first discovered it only happened in 1 or 2 rooms.  As time went on everyone had it.  Our best guess was when the facility switched back to Avid from FCP many of the machines were upgraded to the current version, but some of the other rooms were in mid-project on a stable build and we decided not to upgrade those for a couple of months.  We assumed that creating projects / importing media in an older version and then opening them in a newer version caused the error.  Currently, most systems are running 8.5.3 but a couple of rooms are on an 8.6.x.  We were entirely Mac until a month ago when we introduced a PC, but that was well after this was an issMark

This is very odd. I attached a new user from our system to this thread. See if you can open it and Media Creation is there.

I had to fake the ZIP file to post it here and gave it a JPEG extension. When you download, change it to .ZIP and unarchive it. Inside you'll find .ave and .xml files for the Test user setting.

Let me know if this works for you.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

Its a site settings glitch. I've seen it here to - when you save of a custom medi creation settings to site settings this can happen. Can't remember how I fixed it. Sorry.. I think it was just one of the upgrades along the way.

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

If that's the case, you should try deleting the Site Settings files (/Applications/Avid Media Composer/Settings) and see if a new user has the same issue. Perhaps it's as simple as that.

Please report back because I can then escalate it as a bug if we can determine that's the cause.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

I loaded the test user settings (it gave a message "User Settings file not found. Please make sure that the user settings file as the correct name.  For instance, if it's in a folder called Bill, the settings file should be named Bill Settings - I clicked OK) and - lo and behold! - Media Creation was right where it should be.  Exited Avid, started up with my own settings - it was the blank slate.  When I went to Test User, it was still blank.

Shut Avid down, dragged the two SiteSettings files out of the folder onto the desktop, and restarted with Test User.  It still had the blank space in Settings.  I noticed the Site Settings weren't regenerated, so I closed Avid which did create both files.  I moved the Test User files back into the Users (to start clean in case the last ones got corrupt)) and restarted Avid with Test User. Clicked through the "Bill" message, and there it is again - Media Creation there.  Then switched to my own settings - frown - not there.  I went back to Test User, and it was missing again.

    Re: Media Creation Setting

Ok - I still had the problem under my original user profile. Here's what I did to fix it.

    First shut down Avid.

Open the Avid Media Composer Application folder and delete the MCState files and any site settings files (there were a couple on mine including an xml). I did this but it appears to be unnecessary - only the next step is required at least for me

Open the shared user folder and drill down through Avid Media Composer until you find your user folder - there could be other user profiles stored here - I just deleted them all.

Open up Avid and my user profile now correctly lists Media Creation under settings.

For more info on where to find these files check out this document (near the end)
