Help Dealine soon!! How to select Clips on tracks and ripple delete like premiere?

So i just started with avid, because i´m sick of the lack of stability on Premiere, and i need some help ☺

In premiere i used to put all clips on a timeline and make add edits and put the ones e like on V2, just pull them up (nudge up), then i select all clips with the arrow from select track. And premiere selects all clips on V1 and their audio, and doesn't select nothing on V2 or its audio even if the audio is in the same track as V1. I then do a ripple delete have all the "good" clips i selected, without any gaps fillers, between them.

But on avid i just can´t select the clips on V1 this way, i always get the V1 its audio, and also the audio of V2. Even if i select the red arrow an shift click all clips on V1 to ripple delete them, i just can´t because the extract and lift dont work. I can only do a standart delete, and then i get all those black filler spaces ☹

So is there any way i can achieve the same result as premiere? Because this is always been my workflow ☹ thanks

i Just realize im in the wrong part of the forum, im sorry can you guys move this :(

Hi and welcome to the forums. Do not try to force MC to behave like Premiere or You'll get Mad. This alzo stands for the vocabulary: I do not know what "ripple delete" is, in Avidland we have "lift/extract". You can select clips in different ways, lasso, click, timeline buttons, and achieve different results in conjunction with the control/alt/capital keys. The icon on top of the red arrow (timeline left) will gang/ungang video and audio tracks. I do not know if it is possible to delete clips closing the gaps, please experiment with the cancel/backspace/X keys and the control/caps/alt modifiers. One thought anyway, wouldn't It be easier just to "mark in, mark out, extract", instead of "add edit, add edit, raise, ripple delete, and perhaps bring back the clips into V1?

Turn your sync locks on for all tracks.  Turn off all track selectors except V2.  Select the filler segments between your selected clips end to end (t) and then extract (x).  Repeat until finished.

I completely agree with luca, don't try to drive Avid like Premiere (or vice versa.)  That way lies heartache.

Thank you so much for the help :) that helped me a lot. I had to do it all manualy on the entire timeline, because its impossible to select all the filler segments on all the timeline I guess its not how avid works.

I thought when you do select Left on the entire timeline, with the yellow arrow selected it would treat all clips on the V1 as linked ones and deleted ( lift ) all of this. But avid likes when we select V1 or V2, diferent thinking.

I now understand that Avid works in a diferent logic. Premiere is a clip based editor and avid is not. So now i just need to adapt my workflow :( is a hard process. Im so used to drag and drop clips inside the timeline, work them as some kind of "tetris" peaces. But Avid likes more IN and Out , splice in, overwrite, replace.

The mouse is barelly used while editing, im a right?

One ohter question is it possible to change the keyboard language? i have it on US, but the layout is not the same as my keyboard.

    Thank you

Thank you for the welcome party!!

Yes i started to losing my mind, treating avid as premiere. But now i will try to adpat.

I tried all the combos you talked about, and was never able to select what i wanted on the entire timeline :( i had to do it "manualy".

On that sugestion on mark in and out and extract. What do i do next when i extracted my portion of the clip? do i put it on another timeline? Because i dint understand what were you saying in bring back the cilps into V1?

    Thanks

There are multiple ways to do many things in MC. Keyboard shortcuts are probably fastest once one memorizes them. Mouse clicks on icons, etc or dropdown boxes are another.

Maybe somewhere on the web are MC tutorials for Premiere Pro users to speed up your getting up to speed.

    Good luck & welcome,

Ripple delete (closing the gaps) is what you get if you are using the Extract/Splice-In smart tool (yellow arrow on the left of the timeline). Selecting a segment and hitting delete remove the segment and closes the gap.

My own workflow here would be to just press S T X - S T X etc etc until all the gaps are removed , shouldn´t take more than maybe 10 - 15 secs , you have a couple of things to learn , welcome to Avid
