Is it possible to deactivate license remotely from another computer via web server etc? I'm constantly jumping between desktop and laptop and quite often I forget to deactivate the license from desktop computer. If it's not possible, it definitely should be made possible.
+1
Is this possible? Or can 1 license be activated on desktop and laptop (like Adobe)?
Only one license can be activated at a time. if you want to use on 2 comouters you would need to feactivate then activate - rinse and repeat.

Thats ok, one license at a time, but like the thread starter said, automatic deactivation on the other machine.
If its not possible doing this automated please add this function inside the application manager or from the web page. Right now you always have to go to the activated machine to deactivate - lets do it webbased.

And when you're on one system and someone else gets on the other and deactivates you, what would you think about it then?

I'm confident a password security measure could be used to prevent unwanted deactivations.
The current software license system is the main thing keeping me tied to my dongle. If a more robust and flexible activation/deactivation stysem were in place I would probably finally ditch the old key.

If I were using software activation, I'd deactivate my system after every MC session and I'd never run into the problem you've outlined. And Avid wouldn't need to change the software at all.
I'm confident if someone can remember to remove a dongle from one system and take it to another that the same person could remember to click on a deactivate button. There's no reason to want less security as far as I'm concerned. This remote deactivation idea might as well be extended to people with dongles because sometimes people forget to take their dongles with them.
"I forgot my dongle so can you remotely activate my other system?" Why not that, too?
Obviously, each activation method has its advantages and disadvantages. The dongle's advantage is its stability (although I've had one fail before), but it has the disadvantage of taking up a USB port and having to be carried around and remembered. And it, by its very nature, can't be remotely deactivated.
Online activation, in theory, could be more versatile if remote activation/deactivation could be implemented. Yes, someone with plenty of experience and 100% mindfulness may never forget to deactivate, but most editors I know would prefer to have more control over the process in the unforeseen circumstances where they're suddenly far from their ususal workstation. Or if their system crashes. Or if it's stolen. I imagine this could also save Avid a considerable amount of support calls. Every single support call I've made to Avid in the past two years has been activation-related.
I think all this comes down to is customer options. No system is foolproof, but the more options the better.
I still think that opening up remote deactivation to users is opening up to more problems than you think it will solve. The reasons are many.
I don't like dongle activation or software activation but I understand Avid's need to limit each license to one computer at a time. Of the two activation methods, I prefer dongle activation and it's all I have ever used with MC. I'll continue avoiding software activation until it's impossible for me to keep using the dongle. Avid seems to have fixed the long-standing problems with the AppMan and with the activation servers but things haven't been looking fixed long enough to say they're really fixed. I'm glad I got in on MC probably before software activation was even considered - it was certainly years before it was implemented.
I prefer dogles and use them when I can.
Its been muted many times that we may get a user portal to allow control over activavtions but its never hapened,
I prefer the system that allows you to activate and if it detects that activation is in use will de-activate the earlier instance. Its all based on your logon so its as secure as that is.

Hi Marianna!
So has this been though about more? it seems like it works pretty well for Adobe, are their security issues? It's just a strange inconvenience from a user standpoint.
thanks!
