Nexis 6.2.2 Windows 10 driver signing

    Hi Forum, Hi Bob Russo,

Just comming accross this issue. Brand new HP z440 Win 10 HP factory installed no internet connected so no updates installed. When trying to install Nexis client 6.2.2.90 Windows 10, immediatly after the install, produces the message that it has blocked the installation of the Avid NEXIS Filesystem driver and the Avid Nexis Logging driver as they are digitally unsigned.

From experience with the windows 7 KB3033929 fix I decided to run all Win 10 updates but this did not fix the issue.

On another Z400 windows 10 there is no issue with the exact same driver. What's going on?

    Regards,

I haven't seen this issue and regularly personally install the client on Windows 10. What browser are you using to download the client? The OS treats files downloaded from a browser vs copied from a drive differently.

My only suggestion is to call into support.

    Hi Bob,

I downloaded the 6.2.2 installers zip with chrome from the master account. As it is zipped I can't see how the browser would affect the driver singning. Unzipped with 7zip and copied the client installer with a usb drive to the Z440. Install procedure goes through normally however at the end it produces these 2 messages. However I will try to redownload with microsoft edge, unzip with windows on the Z440 and try again.

I believe it must be related to the HP oem OS but I can't think of a reason. What is also weird: if I disable the driver singning checks in Windows 10 it produces the same messages as if windows does not allow this mode to be enabled.

    Hmmm it gets weirder.

After some searching online for driver signing related issues I found the suggestion to disable secure boot inside the bios.

I tried this and to my suprise now the client installs normally.

    Maybe something to look into.

    Hi Bob,

I have confirmed this on all 3 HP z440's. Disabling secure boot inside the bios causes install to go through normally.

Probably windows 10 uses this bios setting to set or elevate the driver signing security level.

    Hi Jeroen et al.

I can verify it's the same with Nexis 7.1.1. I have tried every suggestion found by Googles. I also saw the "secure boot" suggestion and thought "that can't be the problem". Then I find your entry here and gave it a shot. Problem cleared. Thanks Jeroen.

We have tried to reproduce this on a HP z240 and didn't have an issue with Secure Boot. Could you tell me what version of the BIOS/UEFI you're running?

    Hi Bob,

This issue only occurs on HP z440's not z420's. We also saw the problem on an HP z2 recently. We are setting up 18 Z440 in the next 2-3 weeks and have seen the issue again with Nexis 7.2 on the first HP z440.

Disabling secure boot solves the problem.

Nexis 7.9 HP z440 win 10 64 pro 1709 still shows the same behavior. Only after disabling secure boot will the nexis client drivers install,

This is still the case and listed on page 18 of the readme.

Disabling Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 Secure Boot on Clients
On a Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 client system, to use the Avid NEXIS Client software to connect to an Avid ISIS or Avid NEXIS system, you first must disable the UEFI Secure Boot feature. For more information, see the following article from Microsoft: Disabling Secure Boot.
