NEXIS Data Migration Between Storage Systems

    Hello all,

I'm a little stuck here and looking for suggestions.  We installed a NEXIS System for a customer that has 3x E4 Engines and an SDA.  The system was basically DOA and started failing after a couple of days (Avid issue).  Avid shipped the customer 3 new engines with all new drives.  I'm wondering if there's a way to migrate all of the data from the old cluster to the new one.  The problem is there is only one SDA.  I haven't used the Migration Utility and Avid Support is a pain to deal with.  Any guidance on how best to proceed would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, all!

I have not done it with Nexis but it should work the same way as in ISIS.

Connect the 3 new chassis and configure them as a new storage group.

In the Nexis/ISIS Admin web GUI, you can migrate a workspace from one storage group to another just by selecting it in the "Details" window. Select the new storage group and hit apply. It will start a redistribution. After you have migrated your workspaces to the new storage group, you will be able to delete the old one and unbind the old chassis from the SDA.

Avid's Migration Tool would not apply in this case since it deals with 2 standalone ISIS/Nexis and not cross storage group migration.

This is very easy and you don't have to think too hard about it. Setup the engines and add the new Media Packs to the Storage Group. This will cause a redistribution.

Once added, remove the old Media Packs, this will kick off a second redistribution.

Workspace move is not currently implemented in NEXIS.

Thanks, Bob.  That makes perfect sense.  We'll proceed in that way. Thanks for the prompt reply!
