Play Multicam Sequences in Source Monitor

I can't play sequences in Multicam mode on the source side, only on the record side. Why?!?

It's possible with group clips but not with sequences - Is this a bug or feature request? I see no reason why it shouldn't work and it would make my workflow so much better when working with sequences instead of individual group clips as the source.

Re: Play Multicam Sequences in Source Monitor

Can you explain a bit more?

The whole multicam workflow is designed to have a group clip made, cut the group clip into a sequence, activate Multicam mode and then make shot selections while the the camera splits roll in the source window and the line cut is in the record window.

Not sure how you see this working with a sequnce in the source window.

Guess I would have to try this to see.

    Is this for refineing edits?

Just trying to understand your need.

I think this is related to how other NLE's operate. They use a stacked sequence which allows for slipping and sliding individual clips if the sync isn't right, or having multiple clips on a single track (for example if the camera starts and stops). Overall, it is a better way to do it, IMHO.

Re: Play Multicam Sequences in Source Monitor

Thanks. I have a scene with 2 cameras, all synced as group clips.

When I'm doing my selects sequences, I want to watch the footage in multicam mode so I see both cameras simultaneously on the client monitor. It's possible when I'm loading the group clip as the source.

But I like to work with sequences as the source instead of the individual group clips. Let's say I have 12 different takes, I prepare a sequence with all the takes in a row. Then I load this "rushes sequence" into the source monitor and do my selects. But I can't watch both cameras on the client monitor in Multicam mode on the source side, it's a pitty.

Another scenario would be when I have tons of rough material and I did a selects sequence.

Now, I want to use that selects sequence as my source for the edit sequence and I want to watch both cameras simultaneously on the client monitor - it's not possible.

Here is another maybe wild idea.

Have you considered doing a Multi Group from your Selects Sequence?

No idea if that would get you where you want to go ....

I like that idea... I'd like it more if MC had a one-button tool that instantly changed a Sequence into a Multi-Group.

I'd be curious if MultiGroup works to show all angles in Source Monitor.

We often make MP4 screeners of our Quad splits (or more angles) with all kinds of BITC for producers, etc. It is possible to anticipate that - and at the outset, add another "replaceable"/relinkable Video Clip to a group clip, and then later Relink the BITC PiP to the same Groupclip from whence it originally came. That's a workaround.

Ive done this sort of thing with audio, too. It's the closest we can get to editable Group clips.

Re: Play Multicam Sequences in Source Monitor

Seems like it's not possible, yet. Maybe a feature request. Found this old thread:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/p/102192/719402.aspx

What about feature requests - should I write Avid support? It seems like the Feature Request Forum isn't so alive.
