    4x3 archival footage in 1920x1080 project

    Hi all,

    I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that has a good amount of 4x3 29.97 archival footage from the early 90's.

    The issue I'm having is, when the 4x3 footage was captured from tape, the 4x3 footage became stretched to fill the 16x9 raster (no pillarbox). In order to avoid looking at incorrect picture in the source monitor and needing to place resizes on/over every 4x3 clip in the timeline, I'd love to get this footage pillarboxed.

    I can't modify the clips under source settings; changing the paremeters under the reformat tab does nothing. Any ideas?

    I'm working on News Cutter 10.5.4.7 on Windows 7, but may be moving to Meda Composer 6.5 on a Mac.

    Thank you!!!

    Sounds like the 4x3 footage has been captured at HD 1920. If thats the case then you can't change the source aspect. HD is 16X9. If it had been captured SD 4x3 yopu could have changed it.

    drop all your 4x3 footage onto a timeline

    mark all clips via lasso

    double klick effect Reformat-> 4x3

    drag timeline into preview window, edit from there.

    Thanks for the replies. I wonder if taking my bins into MC 7 and using FrameFlex could provide a solution. Thoughts?

    Thank you!!!

    I guess that the footage has been imported from files, as it would have been impossible to capture SD from tape within an HD project; if that's the case, You should reimport, with the option "do not resize smaller images" on.
