What is the official word on an in-place Win10 upgrade...

What is the official wisdom and sanctioned behaviour regarding doing an in-place Windows 10 upgrade with Media Composer 8.5.3 installed?

The deadline for the free upgrade is approaching, I've done an in-place update on my laptop which went smoothly in terms of retaining all documents etc.

Do I need to deactivate my copy of MC before performing the update?  Will it just continue working as normal after the update?  What is the process here and who has sucessfully installed Windows 10 Pro in place and then continued working?

Anything to be aware of/gotchas etc.?

    Cheers,

    Andi

    Hi Andi,

I ran the Win 10 upgrade without doing anything regarding MC, and it went smoothly, with no trouble running MC after the upgrade finished.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi

Have just completed the upgrade here as well- so far looking good but early days

The only issue I have experienced is I run Macdrive from Media4 to allow acces to mac files - this requires a paid for upgrade from version 9 to 10 - but I have not needed to use this  for some time now and so have uninstalled and will upgrade when the need arises

If any issues occur I shall provide feedback

    Regards

None as far as I know officially, although some users seem to be using earlier versions with no problems.

The Win 10 upgrade went very smoothly for me too - easiest upgrade I've ever seen - and has appeared to sort out a lot of niggly problems I had with 8.1, principal of which was being unable to save titles with the legacy title tool. I had installed 8.5.3 too prior to the upgrade also, and found no need to reinstall.

The only problem I have had, as another user has reported is that Macdrive 9 no longer works (requires paid upgrade to 10) and likewise since I rarely use it, I've uninstalled it for now.

Re: What is the official word on an in-place Win10 upgrade...

I realize that this is an old thread.  I am running Win 8.1 pro 64 bit, and am seriously thinking of biting the bullet and going with v 10 of windows.  I realize that the free time is over.

My question is, what form of disk do I need to order.  There is an upgrade disk, a full version, and an OMF version.  Or does it make any difference?

Thanks for any help and assistance here.  Do I need to deactivate licenses before the upgrade, or just install over the top?

Once installed, how do I do a clean install of Win 10?

    dmfreeman,

I can't tell which license you need for win10, but once you have a license, microsoft makes a tool that builds a win10 installer flash drive if you want to do a clean install.

    Windows 10 Licensing...

Full - If your computer is running an OS other than Windows, such as Mac OS or Linux.

Upgrade: If your computer is running an earlier version of Windows.

OEM: If you are building your computer from all the discrete components that make up a computer. Which means it has never had an operating system since it's a new build.
