My heart skips a beat whenever there's an update for this AMA plugin. But still no XAVC-S support... No

Does this convey the impression that there is something basically flawed in this codec prevents its use as a reliable /repeatable "Link" format?
IMO Sony are one of the best at quickly adding AMA plug-ins and regularly updating them. They have shown no interest in providing an XAVC-S plug-in (apart from a Sony rep saying here on the forums once that it MAY be looked at after the professional XAVC plug-in was fully sorted.) This would lead me to believe that it is unlikely that the XAVC-S codec, in its original form, will become a supported Link plug-in.

    Yes, it absolutely does.

I'm looking at less than optimal performance in Premiere Pro with the XAVC-S Codec, so it might be basically flawed in some way. I've gotten quite used to sending all my XAVC-S footage through 'Squeeze' though :)

    Re: XAVC/XDCAM (PDZK-MA2) Plug-in for Avid 3.50 Update

Having looked at the camera spec, it records in either XAVC S or AVCHD. XAVC S and Avid/MC don't work. XAVC S is seen as a more 'consumer' codec (there's probably a bit more to it but thats the basis of it). For a more detailed disscussion, info and work arounds, read through this forum post - http://community.avid.com/forums/t/129982.aspx?PageIndex=1

The other work around is to use the AVCHD recording codec option plus the AVCHD AMA MC plugin (installed with MC since MC v6....) but, i believe, that wont give 4K camera recording option, only 1080HD.

To pull a few options out of the linked forum post, you can use compression software (Squeeze etc) to transcode/convert the XAVC S codec. There's also a AMA plugin from Drastic (can't link directly to the MC XAVC S only option but this web page will help) http://www.drastic.tv/productsmenu-56/mediareactorlist/mediareactor-workstation#special-features.

    Hope that help/answers your question.

Thank you Ben, I am going to check the options you are giving me. Right now, I am transoding with Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac and it works but It would be great to have an AMA Plug-in for this codec.

    Have a great day :)

I'd strongly recommend against using the tool you refer to here - as it's among one of many others that share some shady practices (Source: "Speaking With Spammers" - a few years old, but still VERY relevant).  One reputable tool is EditReady, by Divergent Media.  It features options such as re-wrapping without a transcode, or transcoding to DNxHD/DNxHR/ProRes and others, and it maintains metadata such as timecode.
